Gym Candy By Carl Deuker
I could not put down the book Gym Candy by Carl Deuker. It is a great book about sports and truly displays the life of a football player and what some people are willing to do to become great. The main character in my book is Mick Johnson and ever since he was three he was striving to be great football player like his father was. But no matter how much effort he displays on the field or in the gym he always comes up short. So Mick decides that it's time for a change so he decides to use “gym candy” to become bigger and stronger. But will this help him succeed his goals? One thing I really enjoyed about this book is all the true emotion that is displayed by Mick. Either right before a big game getting hyped in the locker room or at home

Gym Candy is a book written by Carl Deuker where it shows the ups and downs of the life of a football player, Mick Johnson. Mick Johnson was born into an athletic family of parents who were student athletes at the University of Washington. His dad, Mike Johnson, who used to play college football at Washington and made the NFL as a third-round pick to the San Diego Chargers out of college, got Mick into the sport of football at a young age. He taught his son all the fundamentals of the sport and got his son to have a love for the sport. Mike told Mick that he stopped playing football due to nagging injuries that eventually kept him sidelined for too long. Mick believes everything that his dad says as his dad is his role model so this was the…

One of my favorite books is Point Guard, by Mike Lupica. This book is about a girl named Cassie who has been the best at sports her whole life. She played softball and girl’s basketball, but her team always won. Eventually she got tired of everything being easy, so she decided that she was going to play on the boy’s basketball team this year. Her friend Gus Morales doesn’t know what to think of this. He doesn’t know if or why he is against a girl playing with boys. Throughout the season Gus has to resolve a fight with Cassie and deal with a teammate who makes from his Dominican Heritage. This book is my favorite because I can relate it to my life when I used to play boy’s basketball and baseball. It was also just written recently, so some…

Yes, I would recommend this book to a friend because it was a very touching story. For example, Hope's father dying really showed how much she loved him. This book was easy to understand and to comprehend. The story was good for a young reader, not a more advanced reader. The story was a relatable vibe that a young athlete would understand. I would one hundred percent recommend this book to an athlete.…

The book I chose was Educating Esme: Diary of a Teacher’s First Year by Esme Raji Codell. I chose this book because I honestly judged it from the title on the book review assignment page and found this to possibly be something that might help me in my journey into becoming a teacher. I found this book to very amusing and very touching. I thought that Esme's attitude and writing style was funny and easy to read and understand. One of my favorite stories in the book is the one when Esme made Billy Williams teach the class for a day because he was misbehaving. Esme threatened suspension to Billy for cursing and being disrespectful, so he accepted the punishment of teaching the class for the day instead of suspension. I thought it was great that he was able to mimic and recite specific lines that Esme used even though he didn’t always seem…

For a book that is a must read in class, Papa Jack: Jack Johnson and the Era of White Hopes is a book that really is a must read. I remember hearing the term about giving someone a Jack Johnson, but I never knew where the term came from. For example, they use this saying in Anchorman and now that I know who the saying is about, I find it to be even funnier. Anyway, if you are someone who likes sports or history of sports, then you should read Jack: Jack Johnson and the Era of White Hopes because it gives a description as to how a young African American came to rise to the top at a time where this was unheard of. This is almost like an underdog story, but it turned out that Jack Johnson was the best regardless of this skin color.…
