Want to be sharper at work? Feel less tired at home? Spend some quality time with your spouse? How about enjoying a cookie without guilt? In this speech, I discussed the problems caused by lack of exercise, how you can become active, and what benefits you will reap from being active. In this speech, I will discuss why working out is essential, what you can do to become more active, and why being active will benefit you. Weight-gain is caused by taking in more calories than you expend. To lose one pound, a person must burn 3,500 calories more than are consumed (500 calories per day over the course of a week). For example, reducing calories by 300 per day and increasing daily activity to burn off an additional 200 calories should result in a weight loss of one pound per week. Lack of exercise causes two major problems: obesity and stress. Start slowly and incorporate exercise in your daily life: I’m asking you, my audience, to go out and get healthy. You can do it for me or do it for your loved ones, but most importantly, you need to do it for yourself. Go exercise. I have maintained a strict fitness regimen for many years and my mother used to be a trainer. If you answered "yes" to any or all of these questions, exercise is the answer. Chances are, if you are tired of looking in the mirror every morning and hating what you see, you don’t exercise; if you find that you are constantly stressed over everything, you don’t exercise. Lack of exercise can lead to low levels of Dopamine, Serotonin, and Endorphins. Dopamine, Serotonin, and Endorphins are naturally occurring chemicals in the human body. These chemicals mainly affect the emotional well being of a person. Dopamine affects brain processors. These processors control movement and emotional responses to different stimulus, such as pleasure or pain. Having the exact right amount of dopamine plays a crucial part in our physical and emotional health. Serotonin is a hormone neurotransmitter. It acts as a chemical

Mexico inspired Western cattle ranching. The first cattle in the Americas came from Spain, there were so many cattle that ranching became a very good business for Californios, Tejanos and the Americans who learned from the Mexicans. The cattle from Spain were very thin and their horns were long and broad. Instead of the dairy products produced by Eastern farms, the Western ranches produced things like meat and hides. Rancheros overlooked their herds and fields while vaqueros were hired to take care of the cattle. One of the vaqueros most important jobs was branding, which was when they used a hot iron to burn a mark into the cow’s skin. Branding was necessary to tell people’s cows apart because different owners let their cows out in the same…

In The Rise in Obesity is Due to Stress, Denise Cummins claims the rise of obesity in the United States is because of stress levels. Cummins explains that the United States rates at number 11 as one of the countries most stressed and unhappy. She explains that although we eat on average, just 100 more calories than other countries, we are fatter because of stress. Cummins mentions daily stress and chronic stress. The author says daily stress has become a normal part of life. This stress, she mentions causes weight gain, but not as much as chronic stress. Chronic stress is worse because it releases cortisol, a stress hormone. This hormone concentrates the fat towards the abdomen even in people who are not obese. She also mentions that apart from concentrating fat in the abdomen, cortisol increases an appetite…

After a twelve-hour work day, rushing home to the kids and to cook supper, is there ever any time to exercise? The benefits of exercise strongly outweigh the reasons to sit on the couch and eat potato chips. Most of our population is not only obese but out of shape. If a person is five feet four inches and two hundred pounds does not mean they are out of shape. They may not be in their average suggested weight, but if their muscle percentage is more than their fat, then they are above most of the population. Muscle weighs more than fat, so gaining muscle means gaining healthy weight. Exercise is addicting and fun, once you see the results, it is hard to stop. Even though we have such busy lives, finding time to make ourselves healthy is important.…

I was not active this week. One reason I was not active was because at the time I felt I did not need to be. Another reason I was not active was because I have graves disease, and even when I did exercise after getting treated for having graves, nothing I did help me lose weight, I would try my best to lose weight, but every time I went back to the doctor I have gained more pounds. I have talked to my doctor about the problem I am having and they said it is normal, and that with graves disease some people lose a lot of weight and some people gain a lot of weight. They told me I still need to be lightly active for at least 60 minutes a day and more if I can handle it.…

Lack of exercise plays an immense part in the obesity problem. People always come up with excuses to get out of exercising, such as believing it will not hurt too much to miss one day or that they do not have time to exercise. Sanjay Gupta, CNN's medical correspondent wrote, “More than 60 percent of American adults do not exercise regularly, and many are content to admit they do not exercise at all” (Gupta, par. 1). Gupta hits the nail on the head in this quote, explaining that Americans do not only realize they do not exercise regularly they also are open to admit it. This means that they do not realize how valuable exercising is for their health. Kinesiologist Steven Bray explains, “College is the first big transition in life, and it becomes an excuse not to exercise” (qtd. in Gupta, par. 3). Bray does a terrific job at showing how people use transitions in life as excuses not to exercise. While lack of exercise contributes to the obesity epidemic it is not the sole cause. #…
