Gymnastic as a sport has been around for 2,000 years. Women first started to participate in gymnastics events in the 1920s and the first womens Olympic competition was held in the 1928 games in Amsterdam.
In 1972 Nadia Comaneci showed the world that power, strength and precision were not just qualities that could be seen in mens gymnastics. Comaneci scored four of her perfect tens on the uneven bars, two on the balance beam and one in the floor exercise. Mary Lou Retton was the first U.S. woman to score two perfect scores. She accomplished this in her All-Around competition at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The ancient Greeks practiced gymnastics as a way to prepare for war. Activities like running and jumping, along with throwing a discus and wrestling were used to prepare the young Greek men.
The ancient Greeks also trained their young students in gymnastics as a part of their education.
In the early 19th century educators began using gymnastics as a part of their training programs and in the early 20th century the armed services began using gymnastics and producing drill manuals featuring all kinds of gymnastics.
I like gymnastics a lot. I go to gymnastics during the week on a Wednesday and Thursday and also on a Saturday. On Wednesdays I go to Gazelle gymnastics where I am a member of a squad team. On Thursdays and Saturdays I go to Kaleidoscope gymnastics where I am also a member of a squad team. In November I performed at Gymfusion with my Gazelle squad we did a rountine called Fire and Ice inspired by the movie Frozen it was really fun.
At the Inter competition in May last year I won 2 medals one was for being 2nd overall and the other was for being 2nd on the floor.
I have chosen to do this talk on gymnastics because its my favourite thing. Does anyone have any questions.
