Gymnastics Argument Analysis
As a gymnast the gym is a family and every family has its problems. As I look through my collection of gymnastics items I come across an old score card obtained during my last year at Gold Cup Gymnastics. Upon picking it up I realize the competition it’s from is the 2013 Gold Cup Classic and I can’t repress my chuckle, “Oh the days.” I cannot help but take a moment to recall how all the literal blood, sweat, and tears I’d had led to that moment when I stood up for myself and my team because as a gymnast the gym is a family and every family has its problems. It all began when a rule is made and a challenge is accepted.
As the competition season sprang into action in October 2012, when Burch, the owner of Gold Cup, formulated a rule. “Compete your *giants by the PGA meet in late February and those who do this will be level 7’s. Whoever doesn’t will repeat level 6.” In that instant, this rule seemed fair and reasonable. Despite the fact that I’d had trouble with completing the

You gave me a challenge. You don’t even know how hard my team works. I may be a 7 now, but I’m not going to be part of “your” team.” I say as I walk away.
“…and in first place of the team award goes to… GOLD CUP GYMNASTICS!!!”
The next Monday Burch calls our team into a “meeting.” Announcing that we all can be level 7’s now. After that meeting he tells me, “You’re strong. You don’t give up or go the easy way. I could use you at this gym so if you need anything just ask. Hopefully, one day you’ll coach with me.”
Later that year my parents told me I was done with gymnastics and were taking me out. During the State Championships Madi came up to me before I competed floor and said, “Burch wants you to stay. He’ll pay for all the fees, if you do. Maybe you can talk to your parents about it. Bug, I know how much you love gym, I’ve had you for 7 years and I want you to know even if you don’t stay I’m proud of you. Now go out there and land your front-handspring

The general argument made by Teresa Watanbe and Jason Song in their work, College Students Confront Subtler Forms of Bias: Slights and Snubs, is that victimhood is occurring in colleges around the U.S. More specifically, Watanbe and Song argues that students are getting effected by slight comments which hurt their feelings or emotions. They write, “minor slights harm student performance, mental health and work productivity,” In this passage, Watanbe and Song is suggesting people feel down in the dumps and they can't get back up because of all the negative energy to goes towards them. In conclusion, Watanbe and Song's belief is…

Published in the New York Times, Murray is addressing a primarily liberal audience. However, it is read by a general audience both liberals and conservatives between the ages of twenty and sixty because it is circulated nationwide and internationally. This newspaper reaches the educated upper, middle, and lower classes. Murray includes himself in the same category as the reader, however his tone and word choice suggest that he sides with Summer's radical comments and this in turn weakens his argument as a whole.…

Unlike fallacies, rhetorical fouls cannot be used in an argument to achieve success. The lack of success is owed to how the fouls lead to a dead end in which the argument cannot continue on to any proper conclusion. Humiliation is used to make the opposition feel negatively instead of trying to convince them of something. Threats are a non-subtle way of producing a fight. As stated earlier, fights are in now way an argument. Nasty language is a threat, toned down a little. Like a threat, nasty language constitutes a confrontation that has nothing to do with argument or persuasion. Utter stupidity is an obvious foul. Arguing with someone unintelligent leads to nothing but frustration. Without the ability of comprehension, the audience will never…

We were the champions. Skating as fast as possible, I rushed from the blue line to the net where our goalie was. Our team dog piled on top of one another and screamed with joy. Cheering and crying rang throughout the entire arena. I was elated, tears streamed down my face as I hugged my teammates. After a few seconds, our team recognized that we needed to shake hands with the other team. I understood the defeat and sadness in the opposing teams’ eyes because earlier in the year, I lost to an underdog team in the soccer section final. After the hand shaking, I was a given a medal from my coach.…

A cold sweat began to bead at the base of my neck as I urged the muscles in my knee to work their way through the set of squats my physical therapist had asked me to perform. My appointment was scheduled at seven in the morning, but already I could feel the adrenaline rushing up and down my spine as I watched the sun rise over the waking city through the large paneled windows of the gym. Sharp pain shot up the inside of my right knee as I slowly lowered myself, making it difficult to continue the squats. As I pushed the muscles in my knee to lower myself further, I gazed intently at the wall in front of me for inspiration. A quote I had learned to cherish over time as my personal mantra adorned the wall, reading, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." With these powerful words lodged into the back of my mind, I dropped my body into an even lower squat and continued to complete the set with strong determination to get back to soccer, the sport…

I've always felt that the conservative argument against any form of social aid springs from pure self-righteous delusions. These conservatives are hasty to claim that no one has ever helped them, so they have no cause to help others. Let us set aside that as Americans, Americans should be compelled, even slightly, to help fellow Americans in need. Better yet, as citizens of the world, everyone should be compelled to help fellow global citizens. Let us set aside ideas of global obligation, compassion, and interconnectedness—that we are in fact not islands unto ourselves and that every bell tolls for each and every one of us.…

If I was ever feeling down, I could look at that medal and immediately have that feeling again. Today, I have so many things that I do that are not very easy. I coach gymnastics, I am in dance, every summer I do a mission project with my church, and then I of course have school. Through gymnastics I have seen things that everybody does a little different. When I see someone achieve something that will lead to bigger things in life, all I can think is “Wow. They should get a medal for achieving that.” I think this because in gymnastics, medals are not earned at the competition. They are earned during practice. So when I see people do something big, and I know that they have been working so hard for it, I think that they should have earned something…
