Group discussion how important it is to follow HIPAA procedures in the workplace.
Training on HIPAA – how you deal with it is part of the profession. Work in handling HIPAA is consistent. Extremely important to not make mistakes; patient detailed paperwork and pharmacy dosage.
It is important for a technician to have on the job training
in HIPAA/OSHEA in addition to the legal /ethical coursework. This is an important component of the student outcomes for the pharmacy program.
Denise will meet with the Southern Oregon Pharmacy Board group tomorrow at the Smullin Education Center. This Board included Vicki from Providence. However, the Southern Oregon Pharmacy Association doesn’t meet very often because of low attendance. The group does put on education events for Pharmacists. Unfortunately, the group lost their speaker for the event so it was cancelled. Connie told the members the group would hold monthly continued education classes, which are held online now.
Teri readdressed these issues as follows:
1. Proposal on how to condense the program? Practicum can go away or be combined into two terms to make it manageable for our students.
2. Customer service component added to the course outcomes. Does the curriculum coarse match what you see in the pharmacy counter? (Lori)
3. Advocate increasing student enrollment.
a. How to reach high school students.
Gary felt more research must be done. He proposed reaching out to all Southern Oregon Pharmacy Managers with a questionnaire. Specifically asking the question, “Would you hire a certified technician from an accredited course of instruction?”
