The Script of Habil and Qabil – by HISC

Presenter: Assalaamalaikum and welcome to the play of Habil and Qabil. Before the scene is set, we would just like to thank you all for coming and mention that any good from this play is from Allah SWT and any mistakes or wrong-doings is from ourselves and we ask Allah to forgive us and make light to us our mistakes, inshAllah. Without further ado, we hope you enjoy the play!

After reading the book written by Michele that is talking about Karim and Maha’s grow-up experience during the age of war, I think everyone who has read the book has different feeling about it. It’s a special story telling us about human nature, death, maturity, dream, challenge and love that we have gone through in everyone’s life journey. As far as I’m concerned, though I haven’t experienced such a long travel like they do, I really enjoy their story and they tought me that accepting responsibility is our first but essential step to our maturity and our original dream. That’s life, right? Only by going through all kinds of hardships can we know the true meaning of how to grow up.…

The story begins with Judah marrying a Canaanite woman Shua. Judah and Shua had three sons, Er, Onan, and Shelah, respectively. Judah took Tamar to be a wife for his first son, Er (Gen 38:6). Er dies after he marries Tamar because he is wicked. This probably meant that Er had committed wrongdoing and was evil otherwise God would have let Er live. After Er’s death Judah commanded Onan to take care of Tamar and giver her children. Onan did not want to have children with Tamar because he knew the children would not be his so he would spill his semen on the ground (Gen 38:8-9). God did not like this form of birth control so he killed Onan. After losing two sons Judah became very anxious, he did not want to command Shelah to take Tamar because he feared Shelah’s death. Judah asks Tamar to return home to her father until Shelah was of age because his fear was so great.…

My ears ring as the old school bus screeches to a halt. We hop off and a dry, winter gust smacks my face. Instantly, my stuffy nose runs. I grasp the cold metal handle of the school door, open it, and slam a piece of wood underneath to keep it ajar. After we become accustomed to the cold shock, Mrs. Cimenski, our director, orders us to haul the heavy wooden tables and a set of four lockers toward our designated area backstage. We struggle through multiple doors and long curtains until we reach our destination. The first aid kit mends our minor cuts and bruises created in the process. Gathering our senses, we collect the makeup and costumes and begin a brisk walk to the classroom assigned to us. The first performance is in an hour and a half,…
