The issue that does arise is the fact that we are also taught not to kill. Desmond Doss was asked why he will not carry a weapon he said to the Sargent that based on the 6th commandment, Thou shall not kill. However the Sargent’s response is that in war you are fighting satin and are required to kill in order to protect the women and children. One possible explanation could be that you are sacrificing yourself and killing others in order to protect your country. The act of sacrificing your own life for others is like Jesus who sacrificed his life for the sins of others. However, to kill others is a sin in itself. Therefore, this makes you question, should war or violence not exist because it goes against religion? Also, Desmond was bullied by the other men and the captain or sergents because they did not believe he was set out or fit enough to go to war, nevertheless he was seen as a hero who not only saved 75 men, but that also includes one captain who said that Desmond will not fight by his side in war without a weapon. Therefore, you should not judge someone for what they look like or for what they stand for because it does not determine their capabilities.
