They start dating and for thanksgiving, he visits her grandmother’s house. The occult relics and behavior of the other guests are peculiar, but he ignores the eerie sense he gets. He grows angry with Hadrea believing she is responsible since she is the only one who knows his secret. When he confronts her, she mocks him.
His friends accuse Hadrea of being a demented witch after overhearing her boast of hexing him. He does not think her hex could have a real effect on him and disregards their warning.
