Throughout the article, the author successfully utilizes three images that allow the reader to visualize what is written, and ultimately they correspond with both the pro and con sides of the debate. The first image, located on the cover of the article, represents the ‘typical’ gamer that plays violent video games and, as a result, has an increased potential to become aggressive. “Violent games and movies activate areas of the…

When people think of video games’ effects on society, many envision apathetic young adults wasting time in their parent's basement, mashing buttons in front of a glowing television screen instead of looking for a job; some envision rabid children, screaming into microphones and throwing tantrums in stores to get their parents to buy the latest popular video game; still others envision the violent, disturbing images, and antisocial content in many video games worming their way into impressionable young minds, cultivating the future killers and sociopaths of tomorrow. Much research has been done on the negative effects of video games on individuals and society, but not as much research has been completed on the positive effects they have. In class, the prosocial aspects of video…

Controversial subjects comes in all forms and fashions and sometimes presents disagreements within. The controversial subject that I have chosen has been around for many years and have allowed individuals to take a stand for their opinions about the situation. “The debates on video games violence has arguably been narrow, in that it assumes that such games have only negative effects and ignores the possibility of positive effects”. (Ferguson, C.J, 2007) Within the Article it provides stability and creditability in the problem of violence in video games. The Article is called Negative Potential of Video Games by Russell Sabella, but instead of focusing on the facts of how and why this is an issue it provides facts the boys demonstrate these acts far more and singling this gender out within the article. With the validity of this important information that needs to motivate our youth this article depicts that boys will see and demonstrate more violent acts. Understanding that the main focus should be the youth, only boys were singles out and this article also assumed that boys show a greater tendencies to be aggressive due to the motivation of video games “This is especially true for boys who seem to show greater tendencies to be aggressive and to seek out higher media violence exposure”. (Russell A. Sabella Ph.D., 2013) Video games contributing to youth violence and have demonstrated negative actions which caused support groups to stop the creation, sales, or renting to individuals under the age of 18 due to negative acts of harm represented by the youth. The influence that the video games present to the youth consist of aggressive behavior, violence, school shootings and even bullying. “Recent highly publicized school shootings; reports of gang; young people obsessed with violent video games, movies, and song lyrics; and media prone to…

The scientific debate over media violence effect “is basically over”. Researches are now shifting their attention to video games, which have exploded in popularity and are exploding with increasing brutality (Myers). Educational research shows that “video games are excellent teaching tools” (Myers). In 2007 the video-game industry celebrated its 35th birthday. Since the first video game in 1972, we have moved from Ping-Pong to splatter games. By the turn of the twenty-first century, Americans were purchasing some two hundred million games a year, and the average girl was playing six hours a week and the average boy twelve hours (Anderson). In the popular Grand…

    Adaptive Leadership Essay

Due to its purpose, the military has always been known to produce quality leaders. From George Washington to John F. Kennedy, the list goes on and on. The military’s rich history has afforded scholars the opportunity to dissect how leadership is developed in the military. People can look to the military for guidance on effective leadership because officers “… are trained for high-stakes positions at a young age and are sometimes thrown into those roles with no warming.” (The Different Ways Military Experience Prepares Managers for Leadership, p. 82) According to Professor Michael Useem author of “Four Lessons in Adaptive Leadership,” leadership development is best derived from the military as the “environment creates a culture of readiness and commitment.” (p. 86) Professor Useem believes there is something to be learned from this world to apply in the corporate sector since corporations are facing more uncertainty and continuous new types of competitors. From this belief the author has reached a conclusion that adaptive leadership should be used utilizing four precepts; they are, “meeting the troops,” making decisions, focusing on a mission, and conveying strategic intent.…

According to John DiConsiglio between 70% and 90% of teens in the United States play video games and it is said that 5% to 10% of those kids are addicted to gaming, but what about the other 80%? Although people may argue that the internet or video games cause adolescents to have antisocial personalities that isn’t necessarily true for every person. The internet and videogames can have positive impacts on both the world and people’s lives. The internet and both online and video games aren’t detrimental to adolescents’ intellectual and social development because they can be used for educational tools and they allow teens to become more involved in the world around them.…
