Based on my journey, natural hair is amazing! I started from the bottom with my big chop. It took me a lot of research and a lot of time to get my hair to where it is today! How do we, “the African American Women” embrace our beautiful and versatile hair? We flaunt it! We style it! We rock it!
Young women today are very comfortable with their Afro. The majority of women has experienced permed hair or in other words, relaxed hair. Straight hair has always been defined as beautiful, but why not natural curly …show more content…
and kinky hair textures? I strongly believe that you should embrace what God has blessed you with, which is your natural hair! We should be proud of our hair!
Let’s talk about our social sites!
Youtube, Snapchat, Facebook and so on, has been a huge influence for our Naturalistas! YouTube for one, has been a huge impact based on embracing our natural hair texture! It helps us learn from each other and accept that embracing your versatile hair is okay. In this nation, social media is how we connect with other natural women to receive much support or even just help on how to style our hair.
Women in the 1800’s with kinky hair were worth less than women with curly hair! That goes with how light skins were treated better because of their lighter skin! The society has based thick and coarse hair as nappy and in other words ”not good hair.” I believe that good hair is based on how you take care of it! Just because women have curly hair, doesn’t mean that their hair is better than others with thicker hair.
As of today, us women cannot walk into a office or high-pay job with our hair in an afro or even down. People find it unprofessional and etc. It hurts that a non-African American woman can walk in an workforce with her natural hair down or however she likes it and a black woman can’t! The goal is to get other ethnicities to understand our hair. Even Muslims express their religious beliefs and wear their scarves and cover ups, but why can’t we.
Experiencing the “short hair don’t care” life was a bit difficult, but my confidence level went higher and higher as I got used to my hair! It’s a beautiful
thing based on overcoming other people’s perspective on beauty
