Shakespeare explores the links between confrontation and resolution through Hamlets interactions and each of the characters innate desire to hide from altercation. Much of this play is not confrontation but the avoidance of such, this in turn creates greater underlying conflict that few but Hamlet are willing to face directly in order to resolve. Shakespeare explores confrontation under many different circumstances including Ophelia’s confrontation of Hamlet about his love for her and his reciprocation towards her disloyalty. Not only does he delve into confrontation but also evasion of conflict through Gertrude, and finally the repercussions of both avoidance and confrontation on the resolution of the conflict between Claudius and Hamlet.
