Hamlet's Downfall
Hamlet is more of a tragedy as it follows the downfall of Hamlet due to his goal to kill Claudius rather than gaining honour revenge. Death, corruption and betrayal dominates the tragedy throughout the play and ultimately leads to the downfall of all the characters.
Polonius was the advisor of the King and had no connection with the murder of his father, Old Hamlet. Hamlet disliked him only because he listened to the King and act accordingly. Although he was innocent, he was stabbed by Hamlet it was during his conversation with his mother that he felt the presence of someone spying over their conversation. According to Hamlet it must be the King who was spying over his conversation, he thought it as a good chance to kill him as he wanted to

She was the second innocent character to die. As she loved both Hamlet and her father Polonius, she had no other way than to commit suicide. She was given a Christian burial because she belonged to a high class family as Polonius was the main advisor of the King Claudius although she committed suicide .Her suicide was the death of innocence as she was not involved in any of the activities, she was obedient and everyone, including her Father and Hamlet used her for their own purpose. Her Father used her as a tool to spy over Hamlet and to know the real reason of his madness.
Hamlet's mother Gertrude, the Queen died while drinking for his son when he was fighting with Laertes. Her death was also an accident as the drink, which she inhaled was meant for Hamlet because it was containing the poison that the King and Laertes planned to have it in his drink and kill him. Next innocent character to die was Laertes. He wanted to kill Laertes only because he wanted revenge of his Father's murder. If Hamlet would not have killed his Father, so there should have been no reason left for taking revenge and both Ophelia and Laertes would have been alive.
Corruption also plays an important role in this tragedy. Claudius and Old Hamlet were brothers but Claudius killed his elder brother by poisoning him and conquered his rule. Along with this he married his brother's wife

The theme of death is introduced almost immediately in Hamlet when several characters detect the ghost of King Hamlet. The spotting of the ghost and the subsequent dialogue between Hamlet and the ghost set in motion the deteriorating fate of Hamlet and many other characters who meet the same tragic end as the ghost. More importantly, the cause of death of every character in Hamlet can be traced back to some previous death. For example, Polonius’s death, which is due to Hamlet’s irrational action, causes Ophelia’s madness and ensuing suicide. Ophelia’s death prompts Laertes and Claudius to scheme against Hamlet. When their scheme went awry, all major characters except Horatio died at the end of the play.…

Hamlet was considered to be wallowing in self-pity over everything that had recently transpired. His father’s death, his mother’s marriage to his uncle as well as he had been stripped of his rightful place as King of Denmark. Hamlet was of high morals and religious background. He was raised within the Lutheran Christian Faith and was appalled by everyone’s behavior. Resentment now raised its ugly head towards his mother in her “incestuous” union when Hamlet during his soliloquy, proclaims “Frailty, thy name is Woman!” to reflect his disgust of her weakness. But due to the love for his mother Hamlet keeps his resentment and disappointment to himself at this time. Faced with the realization of the murder of his father, who he had idolized and compared to a Greek sun-god and whose ghost has demanded revenge in order to leave purgatory, Hamlet is further torn between his moral values and his Christian faith, as his faith does not allow murder (“Thou shall not…

In the William Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet the Prince of Denmark is plotting to kill his uncle, who is the king because he poisoned his father, the previous king. The theme of the play is revenge and the protagonist, Hamlet is characterized as being fully devoted to avenging his father, no matter the cost. After two months of mourning for his dead father, Hamlet encounters his father’s ghost, who tells him that it was his brother, King Claudius who killed him. Hamlet then promises his father that he will get revenge on Claudius however, his inability to act prolongs Claudius’s death. Hamlet must first find out if it was actually his father’s ghost and not Satan trying to trick him so he modifies a play that shows a similarity to the murder of Hamlet’s father at the hand of Claudius. Claudius leaves before the play before it ends and berates himself for the murder, “Oh, my offence is rank, it smells to heaven. It has the eldest primal curse on it, a brother’s murder.” Therefore, Claudius will pay the price for killing Hamlet’s father by losing his throne, his wife, and even his own life. Hamlet will also pay greatly for avenging his father. He will lose Ophelia, the woman he loves who drownes herself after her father, Polonius is killed by Hamlet who thought it was Claudius. He will lose his mother, Gertrude who drinks wine that was poisoned by Claudius and intended for Hamlet. In the play Hamlet, written by Shakespeare, the main character Hamlet is often described as a hero. There are 6 criterion for a Shakespeare play to be considered a tragedy; the hero is a man of outstanding quality, the hero has a tragic flaw, the hero’s downfall is a result of his own choice, the audience has a “sad sense of wasted human potential”, the hero has an increase in awareness and a gain in self knowledge, and the audience experiences a cycle of good and bad emotions towards mankind. Hamlet is a great example of a tragic hero, one of his greatest attributes is also his biggest downfall.…

The lives and deaths of all major characters in Shakespeare’s Hamlet are dramatic. They’re filled with love, loss, and ultimately an overdramatized death in a plot that all links back to one idea of revenge. There is one major character, however, who does not seem to fit this Shakespearean archetype- Queen Gertrude. Her role in the play is often minimized, reduced only to be seen in terms of her incestuous affair and the effect it had on the major male characters of the book. Of the two female characters, Ophelia and Gertrude, Gertrude is viewed as especially weak due to her seeming lack of ability to stand up for herself or seek justice for the murder of her first husband Hamlet. However, by drinking the poisoned wine, she is able to carefully…

    Gertrude Weak In Hamlet

Instead of speaking to her son of her feelings, she decides to set up an intervention with Polonius for Hamlet. “Much heart and him. I’ll silence me even here. Pray you, be round with him” (Shakespeare 161). Although Gertrude has good intentions of Polonius speaking to Hamlet, if she was strong enough to speak to Hamlet herself, Polonius would not have died. Hamlet enters in Gertrude's room, seeing Polonius hiding. However, he believes this is the body of Claudius and wrongfully kills Polonius. Polonius states, “Oh, I am slain! [He falls and dies]” (Shakespeare 171). Gertrude having Polonius speak to Hamlet is a large aspect of Gertrude's fate because this death caused Polonius’s son, Laertes to be angry with Hamlet for murdering his father. “Claudius- Hamlet comes back; what would you undertake To show yourself indeed your father's son More than in words? Laertes- To cut his throat i' th' church” (Shakespeare 221). This anger is a leading factor to the fencing dual to where the poison Gertrude drank was. Therefore, if Gertrude had not been weak to need assistance confronting Hamlet, Polonius would have been killed in that moment. Evidently, there would not be a fencing match for poison to be consumed at. The reader may learn from this to have their own conversations although there may be…
