Sometimes other kings would conquer other city-states. Then sometimes they would let the conquered cities to keep working for their own special god! Soon
local rulers could not look to their god for advice. Now they had to listen to their emperor. They let ruling families and temple priest keep local control.
Mesopotamia had a class system! This meant that the society was divided into different social groups! The most favored class had more rights than anyone else. There were three classes, Kings, priest, and wealthy property owners. The middle class included skilled workers, merchants and farmers.
Only the wealthy had the money to send their kids to school. About all of the kids that went to school were boys but some were girls. Their school would start at sunrise and end at sunset. Students would get punished by “ the man in charge of the whip”. There were about 600 characters the kids had to memorize!!!!
