Many states have banned the use of hand-held devices while driving. Knowing about all the people that have been killed in accidents involving cell phones, I one-hundred percent agree with this law. Using your cell phone while driving can lead to lack of focus on the road, especially among young drivers who are not as experienced as their adult counterparts. Driving takes an extreme amount of concentration, due to the many things that could happen on the road. From cars slamming on brakes in front of you, to people cutting in and out of traffic, you need to have your undivided…

Accidents happen everyday on the road. Some are from bad weather conditions, others are because the driver is under the influence of alcohol, and many are caused by distracted drivers on their cellular phone. If people were more aware of how many people are injured or killed by someone who was using their phone while driving , then they wouldn't use their own phone while driving. If making a law that says it is illegal to use a handheld phone and drive will make people stop becoming distracted while driving, then it should be put into effect. A solution for a driver who wants to use their phone while driving would be to use the hands free option on their phone, or to purchase a tool to hold the phone while driving.…

The use of the cell phone in today’s world while driving is becoming a concern for other drivers, pedestrians, as well as law enforcement and legislators. Cases of traffic accidents and/or fatalities involving a distracted driver by the use of this device have become more frequent and are starting to change the prospective on how this topic is being viewed. The comparison of driving while intoxicated by alcohol or drugs is being used to show how the use of a cell phone issue can rapidly progress to the same level of a DUI. Applying new laws and statues of limitations will raise awareness and have better control in preventing accidents in our road ways. Even though the author has some good points about the use of cell phones while driving, his argument is not well organized. The author fails to focus in the topic and lacks evidence. Last year, 16 percent of the United States fatalities were made up by car accidents involving cellular phone. The year before that, in 2008, it was only 10 percent. Both of those numbers are HUGE and this what can happen when drivers engage in distractive driving while operating a cell phone. (OVER HEAD) Now why is drinking and driving illegal but not driving while using the cell phone? I’m not talking about talking on the phone while driving, because we engage in talking with passengers in our vehicles often, but driving and holding a cell phone weather its internet, texting or driving with one hand and talking with the other is extremely unsafe!…

Hope is not lost however; legal consequences have been shown to impact usage behind the wheel. States who universally ban texting and driving, and make it a primary offense have seen on average an 8% decrease in fatalities within the first three months. After this period the decrease is less notable, which has been attributed to poor enforcement after the initial adoption of such legislation. With a relatively new technology that’s rapidly changing, such as telecommunications, it should be no surprise that some of the best ways to discourage cell phone use are related to technological changes. Newer cars are more and more being equipped with in-vehicle devices that make it safer for drivers to access their cellular device and many applications that are often abused while driving. Some in-vehicle devices move the focus of the driver to the dashboard of the car instead of their phones, therefore not completely diverting the driver’s attention from the roadway, but not fully maintaining complete focus on the…

Many people get hurt daily because of either them or someone else using their phone while driving. I think driving while using a handheld cell phone should be illegal. Three main reasons I think this is because sending a text while driving can cause many injuries or fatalities, having a phone in the car with someone is very distracting, and the use of a cell phone in the car with someone is not needed until they reach their destination. First texting and driving can cause a collision where not only the person at fault gets hurt, but an innocent person could possibly get hurt or even killed because of one simple text. Many people argue saying it was not their fault or it was an accident that the crash happened. Although it may have been an accident, it could have been avoided completely if that person…

There are numerous distractions at can be made to disrupt drivers. Being on a hand held cell phone would be considered an inside vehicle distraction, so that means it can be controlled. I believe hat it should be illegal to drive while using a phone because it distracts drivers from the road and makes the roads unsafe. Although some believe it should not be illegal, actually it should because driving and being on the phone is one of the main causes for death and accidents in the United States. While driving, if someone looks at their phone for more than three seconds it doubles the chance of getting into an accident. A driver on their phone may not have their eyes on the road, so they might not see an important road sign and end…

Cell phone use has become so popular these days that many times we do not realize how often we are utilizing our cell phones. Cell phone use while driving has increased so significantly within the last few years that, at any time during the day, as many as 10 percent of all drivers are using a hand-held or hands-free phone. Using a headset or a Bluetooth cell phone is not necessarily safer than hand-held cell phone usage. Voice activated systems are, however, less risky if drivers need not take their eyes off the road or their hands off the steering wheel often or for long periods of time. Some believe that an absolute cell phone ban while driving is safer and more practical for everyone on the road.…
