Introduction
I. Attention getter – Hand washing is a task that we perform on a daily basis, but it is often times taken for granted. Many of us do not wash our hands the proper way, and many of us do not wash our hands as often as we should.
II. Reason why hand washing is so important
a.i. “80% of all infections are transmitted by human hands” (Fudin, 2011).
a.ii. “Each year, 40 million Americans get sick from hand-borne bacteria, and 80,000 of these people die” (“Tools help companies,” 1997).

I. Main point (1) – when to wash your hands
a. The list of when to wash your hands can go on forever.
b. Before and during food preparation and prior to a meal
b.i. raw meat
c. Before and after interaction with a contagious person
d. After the restroom
d.i. “A single toilet flush can spread germs, especially from fecal bacteria, up to 20 feet away depending on the power of the flush” (Wibawa, 2001).
d.ii. 33% of people do not wash their hands after using a public restroom (Elejalde-Ruiz, 2012).
d.iii. Imagine, in a room with about 30 of us, that’s about 10 people – always, always, wash your hands after the restroom
e. Before coming into contact with food, after interacting with a sick person, before leaving the restroom
II. Main point (2) – difference between antibacterial soap vs. regular soap
a. When washing your hand, is important to know which type of soap to use.
b. Main difference – antibacterial soap kills the bacteria while regular soap loosens the bacteria (Beck, 2009).
b.i. Killing the weak bacteria, and leaving the stronger ones to survive
b.ii. Creating a world with stronger, and more resistant bacteria that are harder to fight off
