Q1
From the excerpts it is transparent that the Europeans possessed a great amount of awareness towards their individuality and hence despite the progression of their way of grooming, they still recognized the aspects that made them stand out. It is certain that the style that Europeans employed in growing their cities was borrowed from the American way and hence it is expected that their culture would be diluted and they would adopt all behaviors that came along with American dressing and building. However, the Europeans were keen on maintaining their freedom as lack of ethnogenesis often results in copying of manners which restricts people that are not fond of the mannerisms. The Americans would be expected to win control of Europeans based on the spread of

The modern society was not willing to close the gaps opened by their predecessors and instead they resulted in expanding the communication gap and strengthening the disregard for individuals who seemed unproductive just like in the past.

Handlin attempts to elaborate on the basis under which Britain was ruled as well as the influence the Britons spread to areas that they colonized. He suggests that the laws used to take the rule of these colonies were based on what was deemed as beneficial to them and not what was mutually good for the colonies and for them. Handlin also brings out the point that the colonies were mistreated based on the fact that Britons did not have much rulership experiences and hence their ways were crude resulting in the growth of some areas while some areas that did not seem interesting declined.

    3) The solution to Great Britain’s population problem was to become imperialistic because this would create many new opportunities and jobs for the citizens. It would also help Great Britain’s economy and help them become a stronger nation. The colonization of other countries created new markets for Great Britain. For example, India was colonized by Britain for their vast products, one being Opium. Opium was being grown in India and then traded to China for China’s many luxuries such as tea, silk and porcelain. Because India was a colony of Great Britain, all of the profits were going to Britain. Britain’s Opium exports to China started in the mid-1700s and peaked in 1832. Another product that was being used by Britain was cotton. Britain was a very industrialized country with many textile factories, therefore they needed a lot of cotton and by 1875 about 125 million pounds of cotton was imported for the British Textile industry. People claimed that the only reason that colonies were connected were because of one common factor: Britain. He uses this idea in turn to shame Britain for her conduct, even to the point of comparing her to being worst then a brute. He continues on to say that the convoluted way Britain is treating America deserves no loyalty but instead the fleeing of America from its “parent country”. He refers back to the primary reason of leaving Britain, evaluating that the “same tyranny which drove the first emigrants from home, pursues their descendants still.”…

Politically the relations were altered between Britain and its American colonies because Britain returned to the colonies in 1763 and further enclosed its Colonists under their government, as seen in documents A, B, and C. In 1742, as seen in document B, The Chief of the Iroquois Confederacy “warned” the colonies that the Indians were aware of the fact that white were settling and ruining lands. The Colonist’s had grown so accustomed to being self-governed that they disregarded these “warnings.” Politically this shows that the Colonial government were in control the internal issues of their land, while the British were taking care of themseveles in Europe. The British government’s power was weakened in the American colonies because of the long distance between the two countries; and overtime the colonies grew to posses their own measure of self-government. As seen in document A, this graph shows heavy English expansion, this shows that when the French and Indian war ended in 1763 with the Treaty of Parris, Britain acquired Spanish Florida and all remaining French territories. Therefore this created a more powerful government…
