Hannah Proctor: A Fictional Narrative
Hannah Proctor looked at herself in the over large, somewhat gaudy mirror out back in the Legs 'n' Limbo, a rather low market strip joint owned by a guy named Stan. If he had a second name she didn't know it, or want to know it for that matter, he was a fair bit of a creep but he offered half decent pay in a seedy but good tipping establishment and a whole lot of security. It was the latter that Hannah had come for; the bouncers in this place were huge and highly protective over Stan's girls and right now that was what she needed, to disappear somewhere she could be safe for a little while. It had seemed like a good idea at the time, hide in plain sight, out in the open and under the dim lights and drunken patrons of a strip club, that and …show more content…
"You come see me after you've done your set tonight, okay? I... want to discuss how you've been doing here so far." Hannah forced her smile to remain and nodded though he wasn't interested in waiting for a response and had already turned his back to her. Once out of earshot she breathed a sigh of relief, glanced over her appearance and undid a couple of extra buttons on the skimpy blouse she had on over the blue and black plaid mini skirt and ridiculously high stilettos which, along with her thong and stockings would be the only thing she'd have left on by the end of her routine.

With a deep breath to steel her pre-routine nerves she made her way out into the club, thankful that she was far enough away from home that no one would recognise her here, especially in the dark lighting of the place. She stood behind the curtain that led down to the main podium in the club, the fabric shuffling as Mary came sauntering out, her panties stuffed with dollar bills and a grin on her face.

"It's a busy one out there tonight" she said to Hannah with chuckle and a wink. "Some big tippers too. You go get 'em, darlin'" and with that Hannah stepped out onto center stage to work the

In January 1693, while still in jail, Elizabeth (Bassett) Proctor gave birth to a son, John Proctor III. Elizabeth and John III remained in jail until May 1693, when a general release freed all of those prisoners who remained jailed. Unfortunately, even though the general belief of the people was that innocent people had been wrongly convicted, Elizabeth had in fact been convicted and was considered guilty. In the eyes of the law she was considered a "dead woman" and could not claim any of her husband's estate. Elizabeth petitioned the court for a reversal of attainder to restore her legal rights. No action was taken for seven years. In June 1696, Elizabeth filed an appeal to contest her husband's will. At the time John wrote his will, he had assumed that Elizabeth would be executed and had left her nothing. On September 22, 1696 Elizabeth married again to Daniel Richards. In July 1703, several more people filed petitions before any action was taken on Elizabeth’s appeal for reversal of attainder. The Massachusetts House of Representatives finally passed a bill disallowing spectral evidence. However, they only gave reversal of attainder for those who had filed petitions. This basically applied to only two people – Elizabeth Proctor and Rebecca Nurse. In 1705, another petition was filed requesting a more equitable settlement for those wrongly accused. In 1709, the General Court received a request to take action on this proposal. In May 1709, 22 people who had been convicted of witchcraft, or whose parents had been convicted of witchcraft, presented the government with a petition in which they demanded both a reversal of attainder and compensation for financial losses. On October 17, 1711, the General Court passed a bill reversing the judgment against the 22 people listed in the 1709 petition. There were still an additional 7 people who had been convicted, but had not signed the petition. There was no reversal of attainder for them.…

Throughout The Crucible by Arthur Miller, a series on witch trials occur that creates mass hysteria in the town of Salem, Massachusetts. Abigail Williams, one of the main characters, fabricates the lies that begin the witch hunt in her attempt to divert everyone's attention towards her including the attention of John Proctor. In the play, Proctor has an affair with young Abigail while his wife goes through postpartum depression causing Abigail to fall in love with him but John returns to his wife Elizabeth. While Elizabeth Proctor barely forgives him, John does all he can to make it up to her. Unfortunately, the biggest consequence of the affair is not the loss of security, but when Abigail accuses Elizabeth of witchcraft. Elizabeth and Abigail have very conflicting characters, but they also compare in many ways and contribute to the symbolism of the play over all.…

John Proctor is a very dynamic character who has an internal conflict between being righteous and falling into temptation. This character is very unique because he changes his personality throughout the story. I like John Proctor because he is a symbol of the common man because most men fall into temptation at one point in their lives. We all try to do well but we are all sinners and we need to learn from our mistakes. I can relate to this character because I to have fallen into temptation but turn to God to guide me and direct me in the right path.…

I justify that the protagonist is John Proctor, the “Manly man” who had an affair on his wife and instead of coming clean he produces a scary moment in Salem’s history. Abigail Williams is the girl which has had John, after the affair she is driven by a crazy mind to get with John, she resorts to witchcraft and gives her own blood to give John’s wife to be with John. When John finds out about the attempt on his wife’s life, that his character turns into the good, loving husband, the town thinks he is, instead of the dishonest and unloyal husband his wife knows him to be. I say John is the protagonist because, the whole story seems to revolve around him. Finally I think the most important part of the play is when John said, “God is dead!!” this is greatly noticed by me and it takes guts to speak these things about God, in a Godly village.…

Times were fairly difficult for many people during the Salem witch trials, which inspired multiple people to write about the struggles and stories of those who went through this hardship. Elizabeth Proctor was o of those many that was accused of witchcraft and put in prison for a while. She took place I an important role in “The Crucible.” Between the real Elizabeth Proctor and the character in this play there were many similarities such as: Where the Proctor family lived and how Goody Proctor ended up being pulled into the group of innocent victims and accusers. According to “History of Massachusetts Blog”, Rebecca Brooks stated, “The Proctors were a wealthy family who lived on a large rented farm on the outskirts of Salem Village. . .” Also,…

Asher was furious that his parents split up and what mad him even angrier was that his mum moved him away from his dad taking Asher with her. Asher got put in a school where he was looked at as an alien, an outsider. Asher met a girl called Rosie that liked him. When Asher got blamed for the wallet being stolen, Asher was outraged that Mrs Hyde accused Asher of taking the wallet just because of him being the last student to leave the classroom. He told Rosie that he was going to run away again and so Rosie said I'm going to go with you. I think it was a really dumb idea to run away at the age of 16 because a lot of terrible things could happen to you like you could get murdered, mugged, rapped, injured or kidnapped. Because of them running away they have caused havoc in their town. Their parents worried sick about what is going to happen to them, all the police officers that have to use their time to try and find them and all of school time missed out on.…

When Elizabeth is charged and arrested for “witchcraft”, the dynamic between John and Elizabeth Proctor changes; as well as Elizabeth herself. She grows stronger and confident for herself and her family. She says to John, “When the children wake, speak nothing of witchcraft- it will frighten them”(Miller,37). She is motivated by the love she shares with John to continue and go through the witch trials. Consequently, her love for him makes the situation worse in the long run. Elizabeth lies about knowing the affair between John and Abigail think she was protecting him and his reputation. Elizabeth says to Danforth, “No, sir”(Miller, 50); she lies about the affair to the court thinking she is protecting her husband. John knows she is trying…

This story, in all honesty, did not entertain me or stimulate intriguing thoughts. I felt like the author gave a lot of his time to describe the scene and the appearance of characters that there was nothing really going on. I spent most of my time while reading trying to figure out or thinking what certain things looked like rather than anticipating what may be happening next. Overall this story did not engage me nor hold my interest. I did on the other hand find the way Sammy’s attitude to toward the girls rather baffling because here are these three girls, two of which he mentions are overweight and not on the attractive side, and then “Queenie” whom he points out is too pale but yet in a sense “eye candy”. It was strange how he felt a pull towards them as soon as he noticed them and felt the need to quit his job and become their self proclaimed hero. Was he just as strange or just someone who really needs the attention?…

John Proctor is an honest, hardworking, good man except for his one flaw that became a downfall for him and other accused “witches” living in Salem. His lust for Abigail that led to an affair created jealousy towards his wife Elizabeth, and resulted in Abigail spreading lies and causing witch hysteria to arise. After the trials began, John realized that he could out Abigail and make everyone see her for what she was (a liar) and put an end to many innocent deaths by confessing to his adultery and proving Abigail was only extracting revenge on his wife Elizabeth Proctor. He tried to save his reputation through a testimony of Mary Warren without revealing his crucial information but it failed. When this happened he publicly proclaimed his guilt and confessed, calling Abigail Williams a whore, but his admission was too late and could not stop everything that Abigail had already set in motion. John’s penance only resulted in his arrest and conviction of a witch, and he feels culpable for allowing Abigail and her friends to take it as far as they did. In his final act, John Proctor still wants to save his name, but for personal and religious reasons, rather than pride and fear of the public's opinion. John was given the chance to concede and live, but he declined, which was a true private and religious stand. If he did attest it would dishonor those condemned that stood beside him, who were not afraid to die for the truth. A false admission would also dishonor him and his soul. By refusing to confess, Proctor proclaims that such integrity would bring him into heaven, and he goes to the gallows with his fellow prisoners, redeemed for his earlier…
