Ms. Strachan Compare & Contrast Crucible Paper The Crucible is a play that was written in 1952 about the Salem Witch Trials. This play was written by Arthur Miller, an American playwright. The Salem Witch Trials took place in Massachusetts through the time zones of 1692 and 1693. Girls of the village in “The Crucible” accused others of being a witch. Some of the villagers would accuse their neighbors of witchcraft just for their land. Things have gotten out of control. This book shows you how people would do anything for the things that they want. Characters in the story are backstabbing each other for petty things. My characters Rebecca Nurse and Corey Giles, relate to the other characters in the book because they were two of the innocent people that got accused. Corey Giles really didn't get accused but they killed him because he would give the names of people who were called witches. He refused to lie on the others people for his innocents. Rebecca Nurse on the other hand was accused of witchcraft. This little old lady was accused, can you believe that. She also refused to accused others that of witchcraft. She was a holy person, she believed that she was going to die and go to God. The others that had put up with this was already in the devils pit.
Francis Nurse’s wife. Rebecca is a wise, sensible, and upright woman, held in tremendous regard by most of the Salem community. However, she falls victim to the hysteria when the girls accuse her of witchcraft and she refuses to confess. Then we have Corey Giles. An elderly but feisty farmer in Salem, famous for his tendency to file lawsuits. Giles’s wife, Martha, is accused of witchcraft, and he himself is eventually held in contempt of court and pressed to death with large stones. These two characters to me are truly faithful to God. I think these to elder people should be an example to the other people of the village.
