William Duke of Normandy was born around 1028. He was the victor at the battle of Hastings and was known to be William the Bastard and William the conqueror by his enemies. William became the king of England in 1066, December 25. When he was about 9 years of age, he inherited power on his father’s death and faced many challenges. He ruled England until his death, which was in 1087.

He was only given the name Hardrada (meaning ‘stern counsel’ or ‘hard ruler’) after his death in stories. His mother, Asta Gudsbrandsdatta was the mother of Kind Olaf Haraldsson of Norway. Harald was a half-brother of King Olaf whom he considered to be a role model. He died in the battle of Stamford bridge on the 25th of September, 1066.
Earl Tostig was born in 1029. Tostig Godwinson was the third son of Earl Godwine and him and his family were banished by the Saxon king Edwards the confessor in 1051. A year later, he married Judith of Flanders. Tostig ruled until 1065 when he was accused of increasing brutality and misrule. On 1055, when it came to the death of Earl Siward, he was chosen to be Earl of Northumbria, Northamptonshire and Huntingdonshire. In the battle of Stamford bridge, Tostig and Harald were both killed. Tostig Godwin died on the 25th of September, 1066, along with Harald.
