When I first arrived at high school, I was extremely nervous. The school was huge and there was not a familiar face in site. Although I was nervous, staff and students did their best to create a positive learning environment. Going into my sophomore year, I received the same positive energy from the staff and my peers. My guidance counselor, Ms. Hunter, helped me to prepare and offered me the opportunity to enroll in…

Something that I have done that I believe has made my school a better place would be joining Link Crew. Link Crew has allowed me to help the freshman as they join the school. A big influence I had to join Link Crew was that I had a great Link Crew leader that really helped me when I was entering freshman year. Being in Link Crew, I have met many freshman entering the high school that I am able to help just as my Link Crew leader did for me. As a Link Crew leader I started off with a number of students in a group that we meet during their orientation. By having this group, I attend for them to get comfortable and know that they have peers along side them that are adjusting to what they can expect in high school. Throughout the school year, I…

I had lost many friends because I refused to ditch class and smoke. I was deemed uncool because I put school work before anything else. This wasn’t anything like the environment I had hoped for. During the last several months of my Freshman year, I decided to transfer yet again; I was going back to Beaverton School District. Luckily, I knew plenty of kids from Junior High and Elementary school, but I was still concerned. Would I be thrown into another school run by stoners? Would I be able to receive the education I had expected from Wilson? The answers to those amazed me. From the first day of school, I felt like I had been here for years. Students were quick to introduce themselves, many offering to show me around or tell me all the hangout spots. I was amazed by the kindness that everyone showed to a complete stranger. Students held doors for me, invited me to sit with them in class or at lunch, and were quick to offer tips on how to survive BHS.…

FLHS had a mix of students, there were different nationalities, many different ranges of intelligence, and was very diverse. Throughout my years I found that the people who touched me more then anyone and the people I am so blessed to have had the privilege to go to school with were the special education students. Spending 13 years with your peers you are bound to make clicks, and have closer friends as well as dislike certain people. I learned pretty fast that High School isn't like High School musical. Not everything was flowers and smiles.…

For me, it all started on the first week of September. All I saw was these big guys playing basketball and soccer and I was wondering whether or not I will be able to fit in. Everyone else was eagerly waiting for the first school bell to ring after like 3 months of summer while I was just standing there looking everywhere as if I was lost. Eventually, all of these started to change as I started to know people better. Thing was, they weren’t as furious or mean as I thought they might be. In the beginning of the school year, I used to nervously switch classes without actually knowing where to go, but now I am familiar with this school like all the others. I managed to develop many new skills and stuff during grade 7. Before I knew it, it was June, grade 7 ended, and to my…

Only two of my classmates from Our Lady of Grace went to Castro Valley High School with me. So out of three thousand students, I literally only knew two. There were many changes that made me feel like an outsider at first. Having a different teacher for every subject, switching to different classrooms between periods, and using a locker were all new to me. Trying to adjust to these changes was even more difficult for me because everyone else at the school had been doing these things for years. I felt like I was the only one that was new to the public education system.…
