Harriet was also the first woman to lead an armed expedition into war, she guided a raid which liberated more than 700 slaves in South Carolina (www.biography.com). Harriet also had distinctive features which made her an invaluable scout and spy for Col. James Montgomery of the Second Carolina Volunteers (www.history.com).
Not everyone may think that Harriet Tubman is a hero because she broke the law. In americaslibrary.gov it states “There was a bounty offered for her capture because she was a fugitive slave herself, and she was breaking the law in slave states by helping other slaves escape”. This shows that since she was helping slaves escape she was putting herself at risk and breaking the law. Although she did break the law, her goal was to help slaves escape.
Even though some people think she is not a hero for breaking the law, but she led abolitionism, conducted the Underground Railroad, and helped in the Civil War by being a nurse, scout, and spy.
