Harriet Tubman Argumentative Essay
I believe that a patriot is someone who loves and does good for there country. They don't have to fight in any battles or save any lives all they have to do is love their country. I have learned about many patriots this year and the many years i've been at school but the first person i think about when someone says patriot is Harriet Tubman she did it all. She made a really big impact on the fight against slavery. Harriet had so many opportunities to live her life as a slave without putting her life in danger but she refused to not do anything about it and she took action. Most women in her day wouldn't even dare pulling any stunts like she did. Even though she knew the risks of helping runaway slaves she continued to do it. She was so good at helping runaway slaves escape on the underground railroad that she had a bounty on her head. …show more content…
Harriet escaped from slavery and was a free slave and she was risking it all everyday trying to help the slaves in her country. A good trait that a patriot should have is the ability to get back up and keep going after every obstacle. Harriet expressed this trait her whole life even when she was a kid she continued on her journey to freedom even when her brothers turned back. This trait is also present when congress passed the fugitive slave Act which makes people who help slaves escape to the north endanger of getting in trouble by the law. Harriet was too good of a patriot to just give up and fall so she got back up and kicked the obstacle right out of her way and continued to help runaways. Harriet didn't just help African Americans but helped all troops during the civil

Harriet was born and raised a slave on a Maryland Plantation. In 1849 she escaped to the northern states and did her best to help others escape to the better states. She made dangerous trips back and forth to the south to led slaves to safety. Tubman led over 300 slaves to freedom which included her parents. She had strict rules such as if slaves wanted to escape there was no turning back or fooling around. She knew the exact routes to take to get to the south and never was caught (Heinrichs 36-37). She was a hero and took on a great amount of responsibility other slaves that escaped without her help had their own problems to face on their own. She was extremely brave for traveling with so many slaves because she could be caught at any time while on the go. Originally named Araminta, or "Minty," Harriet Tubman was born in early 1819 or 1820 on the plantation of Anthony Thompson, south of Madison in Dorchester County, Maryland. Tubman was the fifth of nine children of Harriet "Rit" Green and Benjamin Ross, both slaves. Edward Brodas, the stepson of Anthony Thompson, claimed ownership of Rit and her children through his mother Mary Pattison Brodas Thompson. Ben Ross, the slave of Anthony Thompson, was a timber inspector who supervised and managed a vast timbering operation on Thompson's land. The Ross's relatively stable family life on Thompson's plantation came to abrupt end sometime in late 1823 or early 1824 when Edward Brodas took Rit and her then five children, including Tubman, to his own farm in Bucktown, a small agricultural village ten miles to the east. Brodas often hired Tubman out to temporary masters, some who were cruel and negligent, while selling other members of her family illegally to out of state buyers, permanently fracturing her family (http://www.math.buffalo.edu/~sww/0history/hwny-tubman.html).…

Since the beginning, heroic leaders are well recognized in society for their distinctive qualities, but as time progressed, the standards for heroic qualities become more known for one’s knowledge and willpower rather than their strength. Heroic leaders share common interests of wanting to protect, to inspire, and to bring joy to others. However, some leaders share the flaw of excessive bragging, where every encounter for them would be a chance to comment on how great they are. For instance, Harriet Tubman has taken part in the real-life controversy over slavery by taking action in rescuing over seven hundred slaves towards their path of freedom. Whereas, in the epic, The Odyssey, by Homer, the “heroic” protagonist, King Odysseus guides his…
