1. Brenda McCain sees herself as the person that keeps human resource operations in line. Her role is seen as one that brings consistency and order to the human resource functions of the store. For example, before McCain was hired, supervisors were performing the human resource operations. One consequence was that the lack of strong human resource management led to inconsistency, especially among procedures and punishment. McCain sees herself as the person who is working on streamlining and smoothing out the human resource operations of the store. She views her role as a challenge because of the constant employee turnover. She feels like she needs more resources and time in order to more effectively operate the human resources department. …show more content…
Harrison Brothers’ human resource department is positively developing, but there still is progress to be made. McCain has done a good job of bringing order to the human resources operations through setting up policies and procedures for others to follow. However, there still are some problems. It was mentioned numerous times that the department is understaffed. First, the turnover is terrible at the company. Second, it takes weeks for the department to handle some cases or respond to some issues. Essentially, they are developing, but the lack of resources and funding is hindering the growth. One way to fix the problem is by expanding the human resource budget. With an expanded budget, they can hire a few more employees that can be directly focused on employee turnover or problem solving. It would also reduce the workload on the current human resource employees. It is likely many stores have some of the same brands and products. Harrison Brothers can stick out of the crowd with charismatic and helpful staff that suits the customers’ needs. To get this staff, human resources needs to take into account the employees’ needs and wants in order to make them happier and reduce turnover. Annual review sessions can help determine what each employee wants in order to stay
