Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland (1) and is considered to be one of the primary causes of thyroid underactivity, known as hypothyroidism (2). Autoimmune thyroid diseases, like Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, effects around 1-5% of the population (3, 4), and the large majority of those effected by the disease are women (5). Many aspects of Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis pathology are still being researched, including the determinant and origin of hypothyroidism severity (3).
