In the novels Hatchet and Forbidden City, the similarities and differences are within the conflicts of family, and a few examples of similarities are that that they are both boys, for both of them their parents got divorce, they felt really, neither of them felt happy about their parents divorce, they felt really angry and all the big problems that they face occur out of the country where they live, but at the same time there are some differences, such as Brian lives with his mom while Alex lives with his dad. Another difference is that their parents got divorced for different reasons because Brian's parents got divorced because his mom was cheating on his dad and his dad didn't know, it was the secret and Brian knew it "The Secret" is revealed in a dream flashback" (Hatchet, p.30)". On the other hand Alex's parents got divorced because Alex's mom was tired of Alex's dad, and she couldn't tolerate the way that Alex's dad is, and Alex knew that it was the reason "(Forbidden City pg.30)". So does his dad. Also Alex and Brian are different ages, Brian is a boy and Alex is a teenager. For these reasons they faced their parents divorce in a different way though, for Brian it was harder because he's just a boy and too young to understand it. For Alex it was easier because he took things in a more casonable way. Another difference is that they live in different countries, Alex lives in Canada and Brian lives in the United States.
