I often see him bullying his friends, pushing them break, hitting them whenever he likes and also annoying them by singing loudly in class. He is quite sensitive when someone scolds him, but he never cries. He communicates well with other students and teachers. Moreover, he enjoys Physical Education (PE) and Dance most, as he gets to be more active and he works finely in group activities. He seems to hate English and this is maybe due to the way Ms K delivers her lessons which may not be able to conducive to his kinaesthetic learning style. The majority of the students in 2C class also seem to have a kinaesthetic style. According to David Glen “Almost certainly, you were told that your instruction should match your students learning styles…Now four psychologists argue that you were told wrong. There is no strong scientific evidence to support the “matching” idea…”…
Based on the results of the IRI, Soloba, who is a 9-year-old student, in a fourth grade general education class. She is a well-behaved student always looking to do the right thing, but is easily distracted. Soloba has a hard time in most subject areas and is below grade level in both math and reading. She is currently attends an after school math program twice a week and also pushes in with the special education teacher who works on language arts skills once a week. Soloba’s non-verbal behavior includes avoiding eye contact when struggling with classwork or “getting in trouble”. At times, when Soloba reaches a level of frustration, her posture is slouchy and she becomes silent. Soloba’s expresses grade appropriate verbal behavior, although at times makes grammatical errors in her speech, where she is unsure or confused on how to correct herself. Soloba struggles with word identification, comprehension skills, and…
Jaelee really enjoys having stories read to her. She pays attention to the stories during story time in her classroom. Jaelee’s behavior has changed from my first observation of her. The first day I observed Jaelee she could not sit still and had a hard time focusing and listening to her teachers. Jaelee has never displayed that type of behavior again when I would go to see her. Her teacher Ms. Reta had said if someone is giving Jaelee attention she does not act out, it is only when she does not get attention does she misbehave. This is the reason I have not seen Jaelee misbehave when I am there. When I am not there Ms. Reta has told me that Jaelee still has a hard time doing what she is told, especially during nap time.…

Hate is a strong word, and in this case it is used correctly. The KKK is one of the most popular hate groups. They are a racist “ group” that has been known for believe in “ white supremacy”. It was started by a few confederate soldiers after the Civil War. The Ku Klux Klan is filled with hate, but why? They are so many things people don't know about the Klan.…
When Phyllis Theroux was writing “On Hating Piano Lessons” I believe that she wanted to let the audience know that there is a reason behind forcing children to take lessons they might not enjoy. I strongly agree with the Phyllis Theroux’s point of view in her essay, “On Hating Piano Lessons”. I believe that every child must have structure while growing up and while they are still too young to make those decisions, parents must step in to help us. Parents step in and make decisions for us while we are young is for one reason and one reason only, and that is because they don’t want us to look back into our past and regret not doing something. Being young, children or even teenagers still have trouble making decisions that will somehow benefit them in the future, because we just simply do not care to look that far into our future.…
As an educator, it is important that I not only know how to effectively deliver the curriculum to my students, but to also be able to effectively manage my classroom. Managing the classroom is not just writing disciplinary referrals or assigning detentions, but also includes making the proactive decision to prevent and mitigate conflicts as they arise in the classroom. While all conflicts obviously cannot be prevented, teachers must be instrumental in guiding students to resolving their conflicts. Thomas Lickona (1991) touches on guiding students through conflicts. He writes, “even if students have the benefit of a conflict curriculum, social skill training… many will still have trouble applying these learnings… In these situations the teacher usually has three tasks: (1) Helping students understand… (2) Helping students work out a fair solution… and (3) Helping children practice the behavioral skills…. (294-295). While some of these suggestions may not be applicable to high school students in some instances, I think that Lickona’s suggestions have merit. In my classroom, I could certainly incorporate helping my students practice good behavioral skills. I would definitely focus on the moral aspects of discipline and behavior, because students can relate to how they would like to be treated, using the “what if” scenario. Morality of mind is always an incentive to encourage a child to behave in the proper way. Community involvement is not always that easy at my school, but using our parent liaison could be a step in that direction. Maybe the liaison could reach out to the parents when teachers cannot. Lickona(1991) suggests that observant teachers know the situations that trigger situations, (295) as one such teacher, using effective conflict resolution strategies such, one-on-one…
Newsweek's cover story by Nina Burleigh "The battle against 'hate speech' on college campuses gives rise to a generation that hates speech”, raises so many questions regarding the issue of hate speeches in college campuses. In this article, Burleigh explains that current issue about the "war on free speech" effect the current situations of college graduates. She highlights that so many things are responsible which are responsible for the recent incidents including students, management of college/universities, Department of Education and activists. Also, she provides a comparison between the George Orwell's "Thought Police" or East Germany’s Stasi with the recent climate on college campuses. Another example of hate speech she explained is the…
(2) The three main ideas that were discussed in these articles (stereotypes, antiracism and dehumanization) reassure me that while students themselves are the most responsible for their own learning, as an educator, we should also accept responsibility for the learning of our students. Teachers who continually try to understand their audiences and to address student interests, deficiencies, and misconceptions will be the most successful in helping students to meet their own responsibilities to learn.…

What can we actually do to produce better conversations about race? People need to learn the definition about what is racism and what is race. Also assuming who people are just because of their skin color or where they're from shouldn't be done. Another thing would be schools teaching kids more about this subject and giving them knowledge. Parents setting good examples talking to their children at a young age.…
In my experience, discipline in high schools has always been over the top. From what I heard, it has gotten so much worse since I left. Now the students need not only uniforms (just a strict dress code really) but also I.D. tags that they have to wear around their necks like cattle. They are herded from one class to the next with teachers and rent-a-cops waiting down every hallway to prod along the stragglers. Even when I was there, a student needed a good reason to be anywhere, and even with hall passes they were hassled by monitors on patrol. In the morning when they first get there (at the ungodly hour of six A.M.) they are subjected to metal detectors, random searches, and the occasional patrol of drug-sniffing dogs. There is absolutely no trust in the system, because after all, they’re just children and are not ready or able to make their own decisions, barring the fact that once they leave High School they will be completely responsible for everything in college.…
Though Fisher felt she was not accepted due to race, the university had a direct motive in using race in the applications. The University of Texas, wanted to branch away from the threatening stereo-type of being a predominantly “white” school. The goal was to achieve a diverse campus. The university felt that the unequal representation of different ethnicities was directly affecting the students. In which case, the school felt that increased diversity was important enough to have it be a deciding factor in the school’s admissions policies. By including race into the application they were trying to create equality through equal representation. Meaning that, if all races are embodied in the same respect, then the outcome would depict a campus…

Now that research has been down the research clearly shows how racism is still done in schools by discipline and segregation. The only way that something can be done about these things is by notifying the Kansas Commissioner and the Secretary of Education. That is why this research paper was wrote is to notify these people about this problem. This subject is starting to become a bigger deal in today’s society. This something that needs to be worked on to prevent racism and racial discrimination from happening like racism happened in our American history.…
