Of course, this movie showed many things that seem unlikely, but it did raise awareness about issues with robots and their uses. One of the problems is that robots leads on from the previous benefit. As many robots are taking the place of human workers, the unemployment line is destined to increase. The result of this may be that since more people are out of the a job, the crime rate will escalate quickly. As a temptation of more or enough money, people will turn to larceny to provide for themselves. Another issue is the safety problem of robots. Robert Williams was killed by a robot on the assembly line in Michigan. He was 25 when a robot part slammed on him, instantly killing him. Another victim of a robot was a maintenance engineer, Kenji Urada. At a Kawasaki plant, Kenji got pushed into a grinding machine when he was trying to fix a broken robot. Another incident is the an attack on a Swedish factory worker by a robot. In Bålsta, a factory worker approached a robot that was used to pick up rocks. Right at that time, the robot grabbed the victim's head and almost cost him his life. These incidents made the world aware of the lethalness of a robot and how just one maintenance problem could end a person’s life. In addition, many ethical questions are raised about privacy. the invention of spy drones and insect bots brought up these questions. These robots could be used to spy our own citizens which would lead to a distrust towards the government. Even domestic robots can be “easily equipped with surveillance devices” (Lin, “The Big Robot Questions”). Lastly, robots can affect the environment. With the existing problem for limited resources, robots can waste aluminum, steel, brass, and many other materials. Robots increase the rate in which we use nonrenewable resources. These problems that arise from robots make many humans to reject the idea to keep manufacturing
