Today, many of us use technology for just about everything in our daily lives. There is no longer a need to shop at a physical store or crack open a book. There is no need to turn on the television or radio for weather and news or even to watch television shows. There is no longer a need to dial a phone or send a letter to contact anyone. People are spending more time on a computer than ever before; some even believe it has become a case of addiction. So the question comes into play, Is new technology consuming our lives?…
If you were to ask somebody what a computer was sixty years ago they would look at you look at you puzzled. Now days it is hard to find a household or office in America that does not contain at least one personal computer. With all of this information at our finger tips, we have to ask ourselves if we are becoming too dependent on technology. Imagine if we were to wake up tomorrow with all electronic devices disabled. Everybody’s life would be impacted in one way or another. We would lose what has become the largest portal for communication. We would also lose countless information that has been stored on computers. There is no denying that technology is going to continue to grow; and impact every aspect of our lives. But the question is if we are becoming too reliant on something that can quickly disappear. We very well could be at risk of losing it all very soon. I will discuss what could cause this change to happen. I will also go over how I believe our dependence on technology is growing.…
Technology. Perhaps you’ve heard of it. Did you know that the world holds a record of 36,000,000,000 hours per month? Maybe you have spent your hours with your head in a comfortable position, close to your computer screen tapping away on your keyboard letting the hours slip by through your fingers. Or maybe even using your sore thumbs texting your friends on your latest piece of phone. Children are even using technology to complete their homework and the Internet is just taking over the world without you knowing because of the countless hours you've spent burring your head in the computer screen. Every single piece of technology we use is taking over our lives maybe we even live in technology.…
Technology is a great thing, it is used anywhere and everywhere around the world. Whether it’s a radio or an iPad, we all have some sort of technological device lying around somewhere in the house. Technology can be portrayed as our twenty-first century slave (without the feeding). You can ask it to do something and it will do it for you, it is a way of improving our living conditions. This might draw you back on a present for your mum or your house bills, but which one would you rather have? As we create a new generation of gadget hungry children that live on technology, do we rely too much on it?…

Have you ever gad one of those mornings where nothing goes right? You woke up late; you have to take a cold shower, and to make things worse you even have to walk into class late and explain why. You’re already in a bad mood, and then you realize that you left your cell phone at home. No phone means no life. You suddenly feel cut off from the technological world. Technology has transformed the way we function through out the day; and I think that teenagers definitely depend on technology too much.…
In the struggle to keep up with today’s ever-changing technology, is society paying too high a price? People seem to want things now. The internet is one of the most widely used technological advancements available, but are the consequences of the internet outweighing the benefits? Technology is changing the way people think, process information and even the way they act.…
Technology is something that we can’t live without in this fast paced world. We use it to help us get through our everyday tasks and activities. It has helped change our lives by making everything easier to access and simple. It has also affected our social and physical life in many ways. In the essays “Attention Deficit: The Brain Syndrome of Our Era,” by Restak and “The Limits of Friendship,” by Konnikova, they both discussed the impact of technology on us. Although technology has greatly helped with the improvement of our lives, it has also negatively impacted us because it caused us to lose face to face interactions and acts as a distraction in our daily life.…
There is no denying that technologies have come to play a central role in today’s highly mediated society. This is a society which has undergone major transformations in the space of a few hundred years whilst certain technologies have flourished and become a part of the social fabric. These technologies, which include print, television, radio, telephony and the internet, are so pervasive in modern society that it may be easy to think that they themselves are responsible for transforming society. This philosophy can be linked to a broader theoretical underpinning known as technological determinism, which is essentially the understanding that technologies are the primary cause of the changes society has undergone and is to undergo. However despite its popularity, anthropologists should reject the technologically deterministic approach to media for a number of reasons. Namely that it reifies ‘technology’, treats it as a force free from societal influence when in fact it is entirely a social creation and that it uses simplified mono-causal explanations to explain complex social phenomena.…
Our ever-advancing technological world is subjected to both amazement and criticism. Technology has manifested itself into a form like a virus imprinted into us. As a result of which a question is posed to all of society, or those mainly in use of technology, are we too dependent on technology? There are those who believe that technology has taken over our daily lives, those who think that it only stands to benefit us and some who don’t think or care about its effects.…
As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate.…
I. Imagine what would happen if we woke up tomorrow to a world with no technology. A world with no modern transportation, no computers, or cellphones. How could we possibly travel to work? How could we work? How could we communicate?…
The world today is more dependent on technology than ever. Over 90% of Americans today own a computerized gadget (Gahran, 2011). People receive email and text messages on cell phones, order fast food online, cars can park themselves, and even when we are driving, the traffic lights are controlled by a centralized computer system (Greenman, 1998). But what is all this access to technology doing to humans? What would we do if our high-tech gadgets failed us do to a wide-spread lack of power or cyber-related attack? The fact is that people of become so dependent on technology that they aren’t prepared for service interruptions. With non-disaster related blackouts up 124% since the early 90’s (Patterson, 2010) and disruptive weather patterns on the rise, people should begin to take steps to break their dependence on technology, or at least have better planning in place when the things do go dark. We should also be more aware of what information is available about us online. The most damaging information is often information released willingly, with little regard for who is viewing it. People are too dependent on technology related services for communication, internet commerce, and social media.…
