Strategies are always important to every human being and organization to achieve their goals and objectives. As the origin of strategy is as old as human civilization, it is impossible to live or survive in the world without strategies. In the context of today’s business world, corporate strategies play a vital role. Success or failure of corporate strategies may change the growth and survival of the organization.

In 2006, Hayleys adopted a new visual identity replacing its previous logo and they have designed the new logo to represent the diversity of the group’s products and services.

As per an interview with the head of Strategic Business Development Unit; the business intelligence unit of the group, Hayleys Group is in a fast track growth through acquisitions, while having an organic growth through value creation in the existing businesses as well.

Recently Hayleys have spread their business over leisure sector by acquiring its first city hotel, Ceylon continental hotel in 2010 (In 2012 the name was changed as The Kingsbury PLC). Afterwards Hayleys acquired Hunas Falls, extending their wings over the hotel sector. As the third milestone in hotel sector of Hayleys PLC, Amaya Leisure PLC was acquired on 01st September 2011 by the Hayleys PLC and its group companies. As at the acquisition date, Amaya Resorts and Spas consist of three properties, namely Amaya Lake in Dambulla, Amaya Hills in Kandy and Langdale by Amaya in Nuwara Eliya.

In this report we have analyzed the diversification strategy of Hayleys mainly focusing on their expansion of business to hotel industry. Since they acquired Amaya PLC most recently, our intention is to analyze acquisition of Amaya PLC in detail manner to understand & evaluate the strategy. Hotel Industry Analysis
