Debbie chose to return to school with the hopes of a pay raise which is her motivation. According to Herzberg’s two factor theory there may have been have of been many reasons for Debbie’s motivation. “Wages, Hours, Working conditions, Relationships with supervisors, Relationships with peers” Baack, D. E. & Fischer, A. (2013) can all be reasons in why Debbie had returned to school. These particular factors are all a motivation to push forward and succeed so ultimately “Achievements, Recognition, Actual work or job, Responsibility, Chance for advancement or growth” Baack, D. E. & Fischer, A. (2013) can all occur. In this particular case Debbie was frustrated because she worked with 2 LPS who made only 3 dollars less an hour than what she was making when she had already completed school for RN and was attending school to obtain a Masters. Not only the pay differential but Debbie was hired with a supervisor role which the 2 LPN’s lacked to abide by. The LPN’s looked at Debbie as if she were a peer rather than a supervisor.
Debbie is choosing to look for work elsewhere because the equity is not balanced at the organization that she is at. Debbie provides more effort and time and has more knowledge that is why she in entitled to more pay. As far as the other nurses they feel as if because they have been there longer they deserve a higher pay as well. The LPN’s already are receiving more pay than any other LPN in the area. Now because Debbie received a pay raise the LPN’s feel as f they deserve on to. Now not only are they making more than any other LPN in the area but they are making the wages of a RN. Debbie has the right to look for work elsewhere where she will receive the compensation that is more substantial to her position and will not have to worry about just because she receives a
