In conclusion, I believe that diabetes type 2 is mainly caused by obesity as a larger percentage of people with type 2 diabetes are overweight, and the fact that being overweight also puts you at risk of diabetes because the fat puts a strain on the insides of cells. When the endoplasmic reticulum has more nutrients to process than it can handle, it sends out a warning signal telling the cell to moisten down the insulin receptors on the cell surface. This translates to insulin resistance and to continually high concentrations of the sugar glucose in the…

There are 2 types of diabetes, with the not very original names of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. They have in common that the level of sugar (or glucose) in the blood is abnormally high. Type 1 diabetes accounts for only 5% of all cases of diabetes and is characterized by a deficiency of the hormone insulin that regulates blood sugar levels. In the far more common type 2 diabetes, the level of insulin can be low, normal or high. The problem here is that the body does not respond properly to insulin; it becomes partially resistant to the effects of insulin. Some of the risk factors are anything that affects your chances of getting a particular disease. You can control some of them, but not all of them. Those you can't control include genetics or family history, and environmental exposures…

From my experience since I have a family with a history of diabetes, I can add a method that I think will also increase awareness and precautions to help prevent Type 2 diabetes among patients and their families. It is used in my country (Saudi Arabia) is to start a program in hospitals where families with history of Type 2 diabetes are focused in. These programs will educate and motivate the patients or their families on many levels. For example, programs teach patients how to use insulin needles by themselves and how many times do patients need to take it daily? How much is the daily dose? which exercises are useful, what food they can eat, and show patients a effective ways to deal with Type 2 diabetes as…

My grandparents on my dad side of the family both got diabetes between the ages 50-59 years of age. Type 2 diabetes is definitely something that runs through my families genetics, but there is a way I can reduce the chance of getting it. Type 2 diabetes is developed when the pancreas stops producing enough insulin. Some contributing factors would be excess weight gain and inactivity. Eating a healthier diet and increasing physical activity is definitely the key to reducing your chance of getting type 2 diabetes. Some foods that would good for me to try not to eat as much would be foods in high sodium, saturated fats, cholesterol, and trans fats. Foods I would need to improve eating would be leafy green vegetables, nuts, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, beans and peas, and fresh low-sugar fruits. I would also need to improve my exercising to about three to four times a week, for at least 30 to 60 minutes each time.…

Type 2 diabetes is very common in the United States. Most people who get type 2 diabetes are overweight. This is because being overweight causes the body to not be able to use insulin because there is too much fat. Having a BMI 25 or higher increases your risk of having type 2 diabetes. If a person does have a BMI of 25 or more they should look to lose weight. Losing 5% to 10% of your body weight lowers your chance of getting type 2 diabetes. Another way to prevent type 2 diabetes is by eating healthy. By eating healthier the body will lose weight or be at the right weight so that the body will use insulin properly. If overweight, it is important to eat healthy foods in small amounts all day because large amounts of foods cause blood sugars to be high. This specific type is only a temporary condition, and it usually corrects itself to normal glucose regulation after the child is born. It inflicts the body by not allowing the insulin to correct its glucose levels; moreover, it is very similar to Type II. This can increase the chances of birth trauma (Tolud and Harewood 58) and the development of Type II diabetes later in life. While only approximately 14% of women are diagnosed with Gestational diabetes, 34% to 60% of those women are prone to develop Type II (Tould and Harewood). Likewise, prediabetes is the state in which the body's glucose levels are higher than the preferred amount, but the body is still capable of controlling it. Although the body can control it, sometimes it can overpower the body and result in diabetes, but it can also slowly dissipate and no longer effect the body. The probability of prediabetes becoming full blown diabetes is 5% to 10%, and that is the same probability for it to dissipate (Tabák and et.). Prediabetes continues to grow throughout the world, and according to Tabák's article, it is estimated that 470 million people will have prediabetes by…
