Home and Community-Based Services for the Developmentally Disabled (HCBS-DD) Waiver is administered by the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) who will authorize home and community-based services for developmentally disabled persons who are Regional Center consumers. Twenty-one regional centers throughout California purchase and coordinate services and supports for individuals with developmental disabilities. It is the goal of Stepping Stone and Rebekah Lynn Smith, a Program Manager, to provide the support needed for vocational and community interactions. She helps shape the future of the individuals with developmental disabilities that are enrolled in the day program by providing exposure to the community resources, choice, respect, individuality, as well as self-thinking, communication opportunities, and vocational skills training. She also provides individual consumers with the necessary support needed to achieve a more productive lifestyle, greater independence, and integration within the community. Her positive upbringing was molded and forged by her parents. Her mother was a respectable teacher along with her father being a religious pastor. She attended Cal State Fullerton and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology in 2007. After graduation from college, she traveled from one employment to another until she finally landed her dream job with Stepping Stone in 2010. As a Program Manager, her primary responsibility is to manage, train, supervise staff along with the consumers and lastly, creating a detailed but challenging schedule with program activities for the succession of the behavior modification program for adults with developmental disabilities. Her compassion, determination, motivation, and relentless can do attitude attributed to the succession of her current position and the program. Even though her education had adequately prepared her to various facets of her job, Miss Smith can do attitude and various on the job training program paved the road to her success. In the daily basis, Ms. Smith had to adapt and overcome dealing with adults who are autistic and other disabilities. These disabilities include mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and related conditions. Her goals are to accurately access each individual’s strengths and needs, laying out a challenging plan of action, which will assist the consumers become more self-sustaining, both physically
