I. Title: Microscope Lab Report
II. Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to teach us how to use a microscope, how to make a temporary wet mount, and how to stain a slide. The purpose of this lab was also to teach us how to use and measure with a microscope. The purpose of this lab was also to teach us how to draw what we see in a microscope’s field of view.
III. Procedure:
A. How to use a Microscope
When going to take out the microscope, make sure you carry it back to your work station with two hands, and the microscope should be straight
Take off the plastic cover on the microscope and fold it in half and put it away
Plug in the microscope to the nearest outlet
Make sure the microscope is set to low power
Place the prepared slide so it is secured under the stage clips
If the object appears unclear, first use the coarse wheel adjustment, then if necessary, use the fine wheel adjustment
If it is necessary to switch to high power, make sure the specimen is in the center of the field of view before doing so
When switching to high power, make sure you hear a “click” noise when you switch it
If the specimen is unclear under high power, do not use the coarse wheel adjustment, only use the fine wheel adjustment
When finished with the use of the microscope, make sure you turn off the lamp, remove the slide from the stage clips, unplug the microscope from the outlet, and switch the microscope to low power if it is not already, listening for the “click” sound
Finally, wrap the cord from the plug around the microscope, put the plastic covering over the microscope, and carry the microscope back to where you got it from with two hands
B. How to make a wet mount slide
Put the slide on a flat surface
Take an eyedropper, get water into it, and drop one drop of water onto the center of the slide
Put the object you will be viewing under the microscope in the drop of water
Place the cover slip carefully over the drop of
