Bruises

On the other hand, injuries in places such as the shins, chin, lower arms, knees, hips, forehead, spine, hands, nose and elbows are more likely to replicate an accidental injury.
Bruise Configurations
Normally, bruises will have a specific configuration. This enables law enforcement such as detective or police officer to determine whether the bruises are caused naturally or consciously. One of the easiest ways to detect the weapon used to make bruises on children is to ask the caretaker, ‘How were you punished as a child?’
The pattern of the bruises left on the skin can suggest the type of material, or instrument used to inflict harm on a child. Bruises or wounds configurations from different objects can be separated into 2 categories: those inflicted by “fixed” objects, and those caused by “wraparound” objects.
“Fixed” objects are those that can only strike one of the body’s planes at a time, for instance, handles, coat hangers, paddles and so on. On the other hand, those inflicted by “wraparound” objects follow the contours of the body, and strike more than one of the body’s planes, such as belts, open-end cords, which leave a bruise in a single line or closed-end (looped) cords, which leave a bruise in parallel …show more content…
These marks are great help in investigation process.
On the other hand, “easy bruising” in children can also be explained by a low blood platelet count. Children with leukemia often experience multiple bruises on their bodies. Diseases make bruising more easy to appear, however, this scenario is very rare, as inflicted bruises are much more common.
Mongolian spots, which is a kind of birthmark, also replicate bruises, Nevertheless, they can be easily distinguished by their steel-gray blue color, clear-cut margins, as well as the fact that they do not fade away. Mongolian spots are commonly found in the buttocks and lower back, however, they can also appear anywhere on the body. Furthermore, Mongolian spots are more easily seen in African American, Hispanics, and Asians than people with other origins.
Closing: If you detect a bruise on a child, it’s best to take them to a doctor as soon as possible to make sure that he is not hurt or abused.
