Health And Safety Act 1974
Health and Safety at Work Act (1974)
This act sets out core principles of health and safety within the work place. The main way it does this is by defining the health and safety responsibilities of both the employer and employee while they’re at work. The responsibilities they have could be to lift and carry something, you should receive some kind of training how to lift something safely, you may have to move some machines, e.g. in the gym. They are also responsible for things like; regular and appropriate health checks, providing information and training to supervision and to employees, regular monitoring of the working environment. Some of the accidents caused in the workplace are due to the following actions and/or circumstances; slips, trips, and falls, which could be caused by wet floor, or hole in the floor; Harmful substances such as chlorine in water.

This was added so that all of the dangerous occurrences are reported to the Incident Contact Centre. They help you to check and identify patterns in accidents and injuries that happened in a certain time, which will allow you to write a risk assessment more carefully. They also help in cases of work related claims, and your insurance company will want to see your records to check if you have done everything possible to prevent/lower the accident.
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH, 2002)
This legislation is all about substances, which may include factors such as cleaning products. All sport centres are full of these things, and if not used carefully it could lead to some serious injuries. E.g. chlorine in swimming pools, if too much chlorine is added to water it could lead to some serious injuries, which include; skin disease, cancer, digestive problems, and others. But this shouldn’t happen because of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health legislation.
