Physical Development
New born babies need support as they have very little control over their own bodies. As they grow their movements develop further. Girls, by the age of ten or eleven will begin to show signs of early puberty boys, however will show signs of puberty later on.
Communication and intellectual development
By this age children are fluent in speaking their own language and refining their skills in reading and writing by reading to themselves and out loud. They have more confidence in speaking in their peer groups in class. Their vocabulary carries on growing with new words and its meaning. They can now think in a more abstract way.
Social, emotional and behavioural development
They start to care more about what others may think of them. They can become arrogant and bossy or either shy and uncertain. They develop strong friendships and are strongly influenced by their peer group.
