1.Define the following types of abuse
Physical abuse - is use of physical force that may result in pain or injury this can range from poking, pushing, pulling hair and hitting this can be with hands or weapons there are many more forms of physical abuse. Sexual abuse - refers to any action that pressures someone to do something sexually they don't want to do this can range from for-play to actually sexual contact. Psychological or emotional abuse - is any action which has an effect on an individual's mental well-being, causes suffering and effects their quality of life and ability to function to their full potential. Financial abuse - is, for example, illegal or unauthorized use of a person’s property, money, pension book or other valuables (including changing the person's will to name the abuser as heir), often fraudulently obtaining power of eternity, followed by deprivation of money or other property, or by eviction from own home. Institutional abuse – typically occurs in care homes, hospitals and prisons it can be any of the following :- neglect, sexual abuse and financial abuse. Self neglect – self destructive behaviour is a set of extreme actions and emotions including self harming or alcohol abuse or drug abuse. Neglect by others - is a passive form of abuse in which a person is responsible to provide care for a person who is unable to care for himself or herself, but fails to provide adequate care.
2.Identify the signs or symptoms associated with each type of abuse Physical abuse – series of unexplained falls or major injuries. Injuries/bruises at different stages of healing. Bruising in unusual places for example inner arms, thighs. Abrasions. Teeth marks. Injuries to residents head or face. Resident is very passive. Sexual abuse - Change in behaviour.
