Children Act 2004
What is the Child Act 2004
• It provides the legal basis for how social services and other agencies deal with issues relating to children.
• The Children Act 2004 aims to further improve children’s lives by safeguarding them.
• Guidelines have been laid down so that all individuals who are involved in the looking after of children, in the home, the work place school and other environments are aware of how children should be looked after in the eyes of the law.
How this act protects children
• It ensures all children needs and safety is always put first
• All agencies working with children, young people and their families taking all reasonable measures to ensure that the risks of harm to children’s welfare are minimised
• If there are concerns about children and young people’s welfare, all agencies will need to take appropriate actions to address those concerns, working to agreed local policies and procedures in full partnership with other local agencies.
The effects it has on the care provision
• It encourages better services and provision for all aspects of children's welfare and health
• This legislation sets guidelines to services who look after children on the way they should be protected while in there care.
• It encourages higher standards of care for children under this act
Disability Discrimination act
(DDA) 1995
What is the disability discrimination act ?
This act makes it unlawful to discriminate people with
• Physical or mobility impairment
• Visual impairments
• Hearing impairments
• Medical conditions
• Mental health difficulties etc
This law ensures that all civil rights for people who have disabilities
Are protected form any form of discrimination in the
• Workplace
• Education
• Employment
• Transport and other services
The effects it has on the care provision
• This act has influenced the care provision because it eliminates any bad practice for example discrimination or treating them different from others in the Workplace, education and other places. • Under this act it has made all employers and education places change things to suit the person with a disability by making reasonable adjustments around the building for example putting lifts, ramps and having parking places of them.
• All these changes need to be done to ensure that the disabled person is not put in a disadvantage while working, learning or when using services.
