Perceived severity assesses the extent of the seriousness and its consequences. Individuals need to perceive and weight the benefit of coming up with measures in preventing the health threat before it becomes severe. On the other hand, perceived susceptibility has something to do with the vulnerability and the risk factors in the transmission of the disease. In dealing with the particular problem, the individual engage in behaviors to prevent the risks involved. It is said that individuals with low perceived susceptibility may be at risk in getting the disease while that of others with high perceived susceptibility less likely to be transmitted with the disease through health behaviors. Psychosocial variables include personality, social class, and peer and reference group pressure, among others. Structural variables include knowledge about a given disease and prior contact with the disease, among other factors. The health belief model suggests that modifying variables affect health-related behaviors indirectly by affecting perceived seriousness, susceptibility, benefits, and barriers (McEwen,2008). In relation to the present study, perceived susceptibility refers to the vulnerability of the residents to acquire the disease brought about by the waste segregation problems. These residents of the barangay are exposed to dirt and they are susceptible to transmission of disease especially if they have weak resistance to the disease that could be a threat to health. It is important that these residents should exercise precautionary measures to prevent
