Another fundamental fact to mention is that the increasing amount of healthcare in the United States is administered through managed care plans. The overall aim of managed care is to place administrative control over cost of, or access to health care services in a specific population of covered enrollees. Capitation is one example of managed care practices that seek to control costs of healthcare. Capitation is a payment arrangement for healthcare service providers such as physicians or nurse practitioners, to go in to more detail about capitation it is a fixed amount of money per patient per unit of time paid in advance to the physician for the delivery of the health care service. Managed care is structured around a variety of incentives to encourage the practice of cost effective medicine, healthcare, and clinical practice
