Bush persuaded Congress to add prescription drug coverage to Medicare in an expansion of Johnson’s Great Society program for seniors, this happened in 2003. In 2008, Hillary Clinton makes a sweeping health care plan, which required everyone to have health insurance. She lost the race to Barack Obama, and he proposed his own comprehensive plan. In 2009 Obama requires that all businesses except for small businesses offer coverage to their workers, mandates that everyone must have some type of health insurance or they would face a fine. In 2010, Congress passes the Patient Protection and the Affordable Care Act, which was designed to extend healthcare coverage to more than 30 million uninsured people. This law was signed into place March 23rd. (Cass, 2012).
Conclusion
There is a lot of history as to how the healthcare system and insurance came about. Over many decades the health system has advanced so much and is better than it was make in the beginning. The healthcare industry still has some more advancements to become a strong and solid system. If the economics of healthcare continues in the same direction it will continue to become a better system.
