In a health care related setting, transcultural nursing provides competences to provide holistic care by accepting and respecting all cultural differences, and therefore modifying care to fit the patient’s needs (Ansuya, 2012). Thus, it is important to remain open to any cultural encounter, and make sure to be respectful, tolerant, and sympathetic. As a result, the patient will be able to feel safe and accepted, and communicating will be easier. Family Background When different experiences have been accomplished by patient, empathy is the best value to apply. As a sister to one sibling, it is hard to understand the concerns of a mother of three children. Therefore, communicating professionally, involves taking into account the patient’s priorities and being able to think like her.
Communication is key in forming interpersonal relationships in every social setting. In the case of nursing, communication must encourage the healing process of the patient while establishing a bond of trust (Hj.Indirawaty & Syamsuddin, 2015). To accomplish these goals, it is necessary to apply certain competences such as respect, tolerance, and empathy, that will make the patient feel comfortable, understood, and not judged.
