Health Care Trends and Challenges The innovation of new healthcare trends and challenges will contribute to increase in medical expenses to improve patient health. According to, the video Concierge Medicine: Greater Access for a fee explains, concierge services are offered to patients where physicians are providing preventative measures and helping build relationships with patients. Expanded Medicaid is a new trend in healthcare. The program now covers individuals under that age of 65 whose income is up to the 133% of the federal poverty level. Expanded Medicaid is not available in all states ("Medicaid Expansion & What It Means For You", n.d.).
Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) is among the latest trends in health care technology to meet the needs of patients. An Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is a patient’s medical information which is stored in specialized software. A patient’s EMR includes the patient’s entire medical history, including past and current illnesses, test results, prescriptions, and allergies. Implementing electronic medical records (EMRs), allows the medical staff to better serve the patients and provide quality care (Wager, Lee, & Glaser, 2009). Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) are beneficial to healthcare clinics, for the upgrade in technology allows the health care providers and staff to give quality service to the patients. Challenges that healthcare is facing is rising healthcare costs. There are many factors contributing to the rising costs of healthcare, but one in particular is the baby boomers. The baby boomers consists of those that were born during World War 2 and will be turning 65 years or older in 2010-2030.
