Features of Health Plans
After reviewing the Comparison of Health Plan Options, from our textbook, I will be reviewing the similarities and differences among the major types of health plans. I will also provide which plan would offer a greater financial or coverage benefits for the consumer or the provider.
Some of the similarities between the major health care options between the HMO organization and the POS organization are that both of these organizations require that a primary care physician manages the care. They also have lower copayments and cover preventive care. The HMO, Indemnity Plan and the PPO require preauthorization on procedures while all five
plans have deductibles. Some may be higher than others, but all have deductibles that need to be met before the insurance company pays for all coverage.
In conclusion, while reading information on these plans, I feel that the best health care plan would be the Consumer Driven Health Plan. While the deductibles are higher, the premiums are lower and it has a special savings account that can be used to pay the medical bills and prescriptions before the deductable have been met. There are consumers that do not like this plan because of the high deductibles but having the lower premiums along with the savings account will help out to pay those deductibles. I have had this plan in the past and it helped my family out when we needed to pay for prescriptions and didn't have the money for them, this savings account of this plan paid for what we needed.
