1. What is the name of the professional organization related to your chosen career? How will your professional Code of Ethics help to guide you in making decisions?
I am currently in the process of completing my Medical Office Management Program and Professional Association of Health Care Office Management (PAHCOM) is one of the professional organizations related to my chosen career. In healthcare field, there are many cases that require important decisions to be made for the patient’s best interest where even a simple mistake could result to malpractice and law suits. Professional Code of Ethics will help us decide what is right and what is wrong (PAHCOM, 2014).
2. Does your professional organization offer a credentialing Exam for your career? If so, what is the name of the credential you can receive after passing the Exam? PAHCOM offers a credentialing exam to acquire the Certified Medical Manager (CMM) credential, which could be earned through 3 years of experience, education and exam results and Health Information Technology Certified Manager for Physician Practice (HITCM-PP) (PAHCOM, 2014).
3. Define scope of practice. What determines the scope of practice for your chosen career? Scope of practice is determined by the state legislature that issues professional licenses to healthcare professionals. These are the procedures that healthcare providers should follow. It determines what healthcare professionals can only do with what they are trained and licensed for, otherwise they could be held liable for malpractice. Certification is the only thing that is required for Medical Office Managers and scope of practice is only applicable to licensed and well-trained healthcare professionals (Mcglone, n.d).
4. Based on the Code of Ethics for your chosen healthcare profession, list and explain three standards of professionalism.
