The Importance of A Healthy Diet

To live a healthy life, it is important to have a healthy diet. Due to society, many people do not practice eating balanced meals. People need to understand that food is taken in to absorb essential nutrients your body needs in order to function at its maximum ability. World wide, there are too many fast food restaurants and processed junk food. One reason is due to the taste of the products. Before a new product emerges, food engineers tweak several characteristics, and then they hire volunteers to taste, smell, and feel the products. They collect the data to find the optimal levels of every single ingredient, ensuring they put the most appealing product on the shelves. The perfect sprinkling of salt, a specific amount of fat that sends pleasure signals to the brain. Another reason is the low cost of these food. Fast foods and junk foods do not use high quality ingredients, so the cost to produce them is cheap. Especially with the economy being bad and many families suffering with low income, it is easier to provide food that is cheaper. Last but not least, the high availability of these unhealthy foods is a cause of an unhealthy diet. It is easy for customers to purchase processed food because it is available on almost every street. It takes less time to go through a drive-thru to purchase a burger, rather than making a hamburger at home. The taste, low costs, and easy availability are some of the reasons why people are consuming a large amount of junk food and processed meals. Some people do not realize the importance of the type of food you put into your body. Just like putting cheap gas would ruin your car, putting junk food into your body will ruin your health on the long run. Your body needs essential nutrients to function. For example, carrots are full of vitamin A, vitamin B, fiber, and potassium. These nutrients are important for skin, eyes, hair, and digestion. It is called “essential nutrients” because your body cannot produce them, but will take it in when it is ingested from food. Another reason people should eat healthy is because it will decrease the chances of becoming ill. There are many diseases and illnesses that are caused genetically, but there are many that are due to bad health. Obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes are all caused by an unhealthy diet. If people ate healthy and avoided junk food, the number of patients with these illnesses will drop and the percentage risk of being diagnosed with it will drop, too. Not only does it influence your physical being, but it will create a positive feeling mentally and emotionally. When you eat the food that your body is supposed to be consuming, you will feel good about yourself and have a more positive outlook on life. Not only do healthy foods taste good, but they are the base of living a healthy life physically, mentally, and emotionally. Ever since I was little, my parents always made healthy meals for me. I am very thankful that I was raised in a family where we ate healthy and rarely had junk food in the house. I do enjoy eating out and having sweets on an occasion, but I know how to eat them in moderation. Physically, I am healthy, active, and my results from blood tests have always been great. Mentally and emotionally, I feel good about myself. I am proud of my body and appreciate what my it does for me. In the future, I hope I continue eating a healthy diet and hopefully, pass it on to my future family. I hope in the future, more people will realize the importance of a healthy diet and will consider making small changes in taking a step to a healthy lifestyle.

Also, since the cost of single meal at healthier fast food chains like Chipotle is equal to 5 Tacos at Taco Bell, the people tend to choose cheaper products to save money. Every 4 out of 10 adults in the USA will become obese in the next 5 years if they keep eating this food the way they are. Eating fast food like this is causing major health risks. Since this food is so cheap, it makes it convenient for people to go out and get food instead of staying home to cook. In addition, fast food companies are trying to target kids. Junk food has crept into the lives of the American people. There are over 160,000 fast food restaurants in the United States of America. (Static Brain, Source Pew Research Center) With that many sources for junk food and soft drinks, Americans make poor choices everyday. In hopes of creating financial stability in our economy, men and women are busy pursuing their careers. People are working longer hours than their elders did in the past. Time to fix proper meals and knowing proper portioned meals is way down the list of priorities. I believe that the fast pace Americans have adopted has forced us to rely on fast food as a substitute for regular meals and has made us unhealthy. In certain states, new laws have been passed to tax junk food and sodas in order to prevent obesity. Many experts believe that taxes placed on soda and sugar-sweetened beverages are too low to have much impact on the amount that people consume. (, “ Taxing junk food and soda is not the way to make America healthy.”)…
