Healthy Relationships Healthy relationships are vital to living a fulfilling life. Because of this, it is necessary that unhealthy relationships be addressed and changed. This paper will discuss a relationship I have with one of my family members that is not completely healthy and needs to be improved. I will also cover aspects of both the power and control wheel and equality wheel that are related to this particular relationship.

Although my role differs from David’s in our relationship in that he naturally has more control over me than I of him, there are many things I can do to improve our relationship. For instance, I must respect David and make sure he feels validated by me. This may give him a sense of control that will make it unnecessary for him to keep up his other harmful tendencies that seem to empower him. I should also support and trust him in his higher role. Instead of using emotional abuse to have a sense of control in our relationship, it would benefit David to start respecting me and helping me feel heard. He could also start putting more value in my opinions to help me feel his respect. As stated above, David does encourage me to be involved in social situations at times. However, to repel his tendency to use isolation in our relationship, he must use trust and support. Doing so would build a stronger relationship for us, because I would feel that my desires were valid. Lastly, a good substitution to minimizing, denying, or blaming others for his actions is to practice honesty and accountability. This would ensure that David openly discusses his errors and mistakes (Micro Doctor Inc., 2012). It would also help him to own up to his wrong actions and ultimately change for the
