In our society today many people are considerably overweight. To be exact two out of every three Americans are overweight one third of which are considered obese. People who are overweight can have multiple problems and diseases in the long run due to being overweight. One of those diseases is heart disease. A couple reasons why people are so overweight are lack of exercise, poor diet, and unfortunately also heredity. Heredity is major factor when dealing with heart disease or any disease in general. Since genes are a factor into people’s health; people should definitely know all chronic disease in their family. In my family heart disease is a major issue unfortunately. Many of my family members suffer or suffered from heart problems. Since my family has a history of heart problems I have to be especially sure of what I do to help prevent myself from suffering from heart disease. Heart disease is a general description of heart problems and they’re numerous types of problems. I’m going to be specifically focusing on heart failure.
Every single year heart failure is one of the leading causes of deaths in this country. Heart failure is when the heart is not able to pump enough blood to the rest of the body (1). It is a chronic long term condition. People may have onset experiences known as acute heart failures. Acute heart failure is different then congestive heart failure because congestive heart failure is when the vital organs do not receive blood flow. Unfortunately heart failure is often undiagnosed due to a lack of a universally agreed definition and challenges in definitive diagnosis. Some symptoms of heart failure are irregular heartbeat, swelling of the ankles and feet, and sudden weight gain from fluid retention. About 2% of adults in America suffer from heart failure, and people who are 65 and older at a 6-10% risk for heart failure (2). When you are diagnosed with heart failure it usually gets worsens over time.
