Heavy rains still expected in Mindanao, although LPA unlikely to become a storm
Chances of the low pressure area (LPA) in Mindanao becoming a storm in the next two or three days remain low due to the Amihan winds, PAGASA said. The LPA also remains to be in land. But on Friday, it might go through the West Philippine Sea, where its chances of being a tropical depression will increase.PAGASA last spotted the LPA 48km north of Surigao City. It now brings moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms in Mindanao, especially in its northern and central sections, the accumulated rainfall forecast of Weather Central showed. The same weather will be experienced in eastern Visayas and the Bicol region. Residents are warned of possible flood and landslides.Over the last three days, the LPA has brought a great amount of rainfall which caused flooding in areas of Mindanao such as Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley, and Lanao del Norte.Moderate rain is expected in CALABARZON and MIMAROPA, while light rain will be experienced in other parts of Luzon. In Metro Manila, chances of rain in the afternoon and at night remain low. Due to Amihan, waves might reach up to 4.5 meters high in the seaboards of northern Luzon and southern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of central Luzon and Visayas. PAGASA warned fisherfolk using small seacraft to avoid setting sail in said areas.Heavy rains still expected in Mindanao, although LPA unlikely to become a storm

A typhoon is a region-specific term given to a type of tropical cyclone, usually occurring within the northwestern region of the Pacific Ocean, west of the International Date Line. These same systems in other regions are referred to as either hurricanes, or more generally, tropical cyclones. The center of a cyclone is referred to as the eye. The eye is a circular area of calm, fair weather. On average, a tropical cyclone eye is about 30 miles across. Surrounding the eye are eyewalls which are regions of dense convective clouds. The winds of eyewalls are the highest and generally cause the most damage. Spiraling into the eyewalls are more convective cloud regions referred to as spiral bands. These areas contain heavy winds and extend out from the typhoon eye.…

    (d) The Philippines is a disaster hotspot because it is at risk two or more natural disasters. Both physical and human factors have made the Philippines a disaster hotspot in a number of ways. Firstly, the Philippines is located on a destructive plate boundary at a subduction zone. This is where two plates converge, and the heavier oceanic lithosphere sinks beneath the continental lithosphere and this leads to violent volcanic eruptions and severe earthquakes. Another physical factor that makes the Philippines a disaster hotspot is that it lies in between the tropic of cancer and the tropic of Capricorn. It is within 20⁰ North of the equator; which means that the ocean temperatures around the Philippines are warm enough to trigger of tragic tropical storms. This creates the hazard but what makes it into a natural disaster is that it affects people. As the Philippines is a group of 7000 low-lying islands the people are more vulnerable to the tropical storms and when it comes into contact with humans it becomes into a severe disaster. There are also human factors that make the Philippines a disaster hotspot. Urbanisation is a major factor that increases the risk from natural…
