In life, since the very beginning the two genders that make up humanity are males and females. These two genders have been going through every step of evolution throughout history defining the role that both gender play. Since the ancient times until now, the one that is considered to be the dominant gender is the male, while female’s role has been improved throughout time; there are still a lot of rights and freedom that the female gender is still fighting for. The meeting that I was invited to attend in the Nacional Palace was about the campaign created by the renowned actress, Emma Watson, the viral campaign “HeforShe.” This campaign fights for the equal rights among both genders. This campaign seeks to raise awareness about the unfair suffering and treatment that the female gender is receiving from the modern society. In the meeting, two influential women that were speaking about this campaign were our vice president Margarita Cedeño de Fernandez and one of the representatives of ONU Mujeres. In the speech of these two figures, they wanted to raise awareness about the role of the females in the Dominican society and in the entire world. They pointed out that there is a high level of unfairness in the treatment of women in the Dominican society and that if nothing is done about it, then we will never be able to achieve gender equality. In the meeting it was mentioned many shocking facts about the women’s role nowadays. Something that they agreed on and emphasize a lot was Emma Watson’s saying that at the rate that we are going, gender equality will be achieved in 70 years. This shocked the audience because it meant that we still have a long way to go before achieving gender equality if nothing is done regarding the subject. The speeches presented by the vice president and the female representative convey a message about how gender equality can be achieved
